Ms. Li Xiumin is currently illegally detained at the No. 2 Detention Center in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province. Due to being tortured for a long time, Ms. Li now has low blood pressure and is in critical condition.
During eight years of the persecution, Ms. Li has been in a forced labor camp for more than four years. Not only was she tortured in this labor camp, but her family members also suffered from the persecution. Her parents are 70 years old and she has a young son. They have constantly appealed for Ms. Li.
Appealing according to the law, getting fired instead
Ms. Li Xiumin, 46, worked at the Hebei Science and Technology University. Since she was a child she had been weak. She suffered from multiple illnesses, including rheumatic arthritis, hypotension, and gastric disease. She had a bad temper due to her ill health. Ms. Li started to practice Falun Gong in October 1995. Soon afterwards, the illnesses which had troubled her for 15 years disappeared and her spirit was uplifted. She also became a good person.
In July 1999, Jiang Zemin started the vicious persecution. In October, Ms. Li went to Beijing to appeal according to the law. There she was illegally arrested. Police officers from the Shijiazhuang Youyi Street locked her to a chair in a small, smelly room for seven days and nights. Because it was freezing in that room, her feet were frostbitten. In November, her work place stopped paying her salary.
Not being able to appeal to officials, Ms. Li started to tell the facts to the people she met. On the evening of February 4, 2000, Ms. Li joined a group that was practicing at the Hebei Theater. They wanted to let people know that Falun Dafa is good. She was arrested and her home was searched.
In the Qiaoxi Police Station, a police officer handcuffed her hands from behind to an iron cage, and did not allow her to sleep for seven days and nights. Her hands started to swell because the handcuffs were too tight. Also she did not have any feeling in the thumb of her right hand half a year afterwards.
Inhumane Torture at Forced Labor Camp
On March 13, 2000, people from the Qiaoxi Police Station sentenced Ms. Li to three years in a forced labor camp. They detained her at the No. 4 team in the Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp, where she was brutally tortured.
1. Long hours of hard labor, forced to stand against a wall
Detained Falun Dafa practitioners were forced to work 17 to 20 hours per day. When they protested these long working hours, they were punished forcefully and had to stand facing the wall for 17 to 20 hours per day. Ms. Li Xiumin was punished this way for more than 40 days, which caused her legs and feet to become swollen.
2. "Shang Sheng" (roping), beaten by rubber rods
On April 4, 2000, Ms. Li Xiumin recited Teacher's lectures with two dozen other practitioners. Police officers brutally beat them. They dragged Ms. Li to the office and kept slapping her face. When one police officer was too tired, they then replaced him with another one. They also did "Shang Sheng" (roping) on her, which is an extremely painful torture method. They forced her to kneel on the floor and used rubber rods to hit her back hard. Ms. Li's face showed purple black bruises and was totally swollen.
3. Brutal force feeding
In order to protest the persecution, at the end of 2000, all female practitioners took off their prison uniforms and went on hunger strikes. They requested unconditional release. During the hunger strikes, every practitioner was force fed many times. The police officers inserted plastic or rubber tubes through their noses into their stomachs and then force fed them. It was a horrible experience for all of them. Ms. Li suffered gastric hemorrhage because of the force feeding.
4. Brainwashing
On January 23, 2001, Jiang Zemin directed the staged "self-immolation" on Tiananmen and used it to frame Falun Gong and to justify the persecution. "Transforming" became one of the major weapons for Jiang's followers in their attempt to eliminate Falun Gong. They used all kinds of inhumane methods to force Falun Gong practitioners to write statements giving up their practice. Ms. Li Xiumin refused. Thus they increased her tortures by locking one hand and one foot together at night, making it impossible for her to turn or sit up. She was also not allowed to use the restroom during the night. This torture continued for six months.
5. Detained in a forced labor camp for the second time
When Ms. Li Xiumin was released on April 5, 2003, she had nothing except many injuries on her body. Therefore, she had to live with her parents. Six months later, on November 14, a dozen police officers broke into her parents' home and abducted her. Their family property was illegally confiscated. The next day, Ms. Li escaped from the police station and therefore became homeless.
In July 2004, Ms. Li Xiumin tried to see her child but was abducted by the police and detained at the 2nd Detention Center. On October 11, 2004, they sentenced her once again to two years in a forced labor camp. She was not released until March 2006.
6. Arrested the fourth time and health condition worsened
On May 23, 2007, Ms. Li was arrested again by the Xinhua District Shangcheng Police. She had been detained at the 2nd Detention Center and then was transferred to the Xinhua District Court. During her detention at the forced labor camp, she developed mammary gland proliferation and a tumor in her womb. The detention center notified Ms. Li's parents, stating that she had severe health problems and suggested that the family ask for probation so that she could remain at home while awaiting her trial. Her parents are extremely worried but the police did not allow them to visit their daughter. Ms. Li's family asked a lawyer to defend her and the lawyer agreed. But the court rejected the lawyer and did not allow Ms. Li a defender.
We ask for international help to rescue Ms. Li Xiumin and stop this evil persecution that has lasted for eight years!
