The above seven practitioners were among the 19 Falun Gong practitioners arrested from Beiqing Village during large scale arrests in 2002. These practitioners were the most-severely persecuted. The other 12 were also illegally detained and brainwashed for several months.
Mr. Zhao Jinshan, in his 40s, is from Dongti Village, Duancun Township, Anxin County. He was operating a small business in Beijing. In late 2004, around 20-30 policemen went to his rented apartment and coerced him to hand over his Dafa books. Later, along with his wife and child, Mr. Zhao was taken to a brainwashing center in Fengtai. Mr. Zhao refused to pay the extortion money. Three days later, he was taken back to a detention center in Anxin for 15 days. He was forced to pay 600 yuan per person for meals. His family also paid out over 1000 yuan to facilitate his release.
Ms. Ma Qiuhong, 42, is the wife of Zhao Jinshan. She was in Beijing with her husband operating a small business. She was arrested with her husband in Beijing and was "illegally detained" for 15 days.
Mr. Tian Laode, 63, is a retired cadre from the Labor and Social Security Bureau. After the persecution started on July 20, 1999, he was forced to write a guarantee statement promising not to practice Falun Gong.
Ms. Zhang Xiaochan, 75, is from Guolikou Village, Anxin Township. In 2000, several people from the township and village government went to her home. They asked her, "Is Falun Gong good or bad?" and other questions. She was taken to the township government office, then the detention center. Due to the shortage of space in the detention center, they could not keep her there. Her two sons wrote guarantee statements for her and paid 10,000 yuan bail for her release.

Ms. Yang Ruichun, 54, an employee at a local store, is from Lijia Village, Laohetou Township, Anxin County. Since July 20, 1999, police officers from the local station and people from her workplace have been harassing her at home and monitoring her day and night. They have also taken away her personal identification card.
Ms. Lu Shuying, 60, worked at a hospital and was from Northeast China. She started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. She went to Beijing on July 20, 1999, to appeal for Falun Gong. She was taken to a sports stadium and registered by police. She was then taken back to Anxin and sent to a brainwashing center. A week later, she was sent to another brainwashing center and detained for 17 days. She stopped practicing Falun Gong due to fear, and became physically weaker over time.
