(Clearwisdom.net) A practitioner once brought a person who suffered from psychosis to group Fa study and outside to clarify the truth. When others pointed out to him that this is not in accord with the Fa, this practitioner did not agree, because the person had psychosis in the past, and since, "the Fa is boundless," claimed that nothing would happen.
Regarding this issue, here is my opinion. Whatever Master tells us not to do, we cannot do it no matter what. The practitioner indeed had no way to know that nothing would happen. If the evil takes advantage of the situation and it results in a negative impact on Dafa, it would be difficult to recover the loss. We must be responsible to Dafa.
Master talked about this issue in "Teaching the Fa at the 2004 International Fa Conference in New York."
"Disciple: A student suffered from psychosis a few years ago and had to stay in the hospital, but in the last few years he has not had a problem. Right now he is taking part in Fa-validating work. Should we advise him to appear in public as little as possible, keep a low profile, and do behind-the-scenes type work?
Teacher: That's a good suggestion. If some students can't handle themselves well or suffered from psychosis before learning the Fa, then it's okay for them to cultivate at home. Back when I was imparting the Fa, I always said that those who had psychosis were not allowed in the seminars. When [those] people took up the practice, I would take care of them, and if they studied at home, I would save them just the same. But they were not allowed in the seminars. We needed to protect that cultivation environment of Dafa disciples and prevent interference, and that is why I didn't allow critically ill patients or those who had psychosis to attend the seminars. Students who used to have psychosis can do some things that are in the background, and it's okay if they do less or nothing when it comes to clarifying the truth."
I feel that Fa study sites are similar to exercise sites. It is Dafa's field. We can cause a negative effect if we don't do well. There are often new practitioners and practitioners' families coming in and out. New practitioners have not studied the Fa in depth, and practitioners' families have not studied the Fa at all. If something happens, these people may not understand, and if they talk about it to other people, it may lead to even worse outcomes. People who have had psychosis should study the Fa at home, and if they encounter problems they can go to veteran practitioners' homes to share. Master has been very clear on what to do with people who have personal or family histories of psychosis. If we do not follow the Fa, it can very easily lead to great loss.
In my understanding, from one perspective, whether we cultivate well is basically linked to whether we listen to Master or not. Aren't Master's words Fa? Don't we need to do things according to the Fa? Of course, Master is compassionate. He sees that we are lost and thus again and again clarifies Fa principles to us. However, we are often obstructed by our own notions, and don't realize these principles, nor want to realize them.
On doing the three things, there have been times when I did not understand Master's requirements and thus my mind wavered. Why did it waver? It was because I measured the requirements based on my notions and not based on the Fa. Now thinking back, the times that my mind was the clearest were always the times when I did whatever Master tells us to do. Looking at it in another way, didn't we fall into this world of confusion because we didn't reach the Fa's standard? Otherwise there would be no cultivation. Of course there will be times that we don't completely understand things, exactly because we are amidst the confusion.
Some people say, "Saving beings is very urgent. Let's not consider these things." I don't agree. Master taught us to walk a road that is the most righteous, has no gaps, and has nothing that the evil can take advantage of. We can obtain several things simultaneously on this path. We can cultivate ourselves, and at the same time save sentient beings. We should not forget about cultivating ourselves because saving sentient beings is urgent. We can't disregard the negative effects because saving sentient beings is urgent. Of course, we must hurry and save sentient beings, but at the same time we must cultivate ourselves well and walk on the path righteously. As for saving sentient beings, walking the path righteously allows us to save people most effectively, and only by doing so can we walk the path truly well. Saving people and cultivating ourselves are both important.
On the other hand, if the things we do are not righteous and are taken advantage of by the evil, it may have a negative impact, requiring significant effort to recover. Have we not had enough lessons?
My level is limited and my understanding may also be limited. It is only for fellow practitioners' reference.
