Ms. Zhang Congyuan is a retired employee from the Guang'an District Business Bureau in Guang'an City, Sichuan Province. Between 2001 and April 2008, she has been arrested multiple times, detained, placed under surveillance, and forced into brainwashing sessions. This mistreatment has placed huge mental and financial pressure on Ms. Zhang, her husband, and their children.
Ms. Zhang went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa in October 1999, and was later detained multiple times at the Guang'an City Detention Center, Yuechi County Detention Center, and Guangfu Police Station. She was sentenced to one year of forced labor, and was held in the Nanmusi Women's Forced Labor Camp in Chengdu City.
On January 1, 2002, she was again sentenced to three years of forced labor, and served in Chongqing City Women's Forced Labor Camp, where she was brutally tortured.
In June 2005, she was arrested and detained at the Huayun City brainwashing center, and further detained at Guang'an City Mental Hospital for a period of four and a half months. On the evening of September 8, 2007, she was once again arrested at her home, and detained at a brainwashing center for 25 days.
Ms. Zhang was forced to leave home in November 2007, to avoid being arrested again.
