(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 37 cities or counties in 14 provinces. In this report, 59 practitioners who were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 91 practitioners were illegally arrested.

The Jianxi District "610 Office" in Luoyang City used the increased security surrounding the Olympic Games as a pretext for taking a large number of practitioners into custody. The following thirteen practitioners have been taken to a brainwashing center in Huaxi Hotel: Mr. Liu Xinyi, Mr. Pang Yi, Mr. Gao Guobao, Ms. Liu Aiqin, Ms. Guo Peiyu, Ms. Pan Xiuwen, Mr. Feng Lianhua, Ms. Dong Ahangzhang, Ms. Qiao Luanying, Ms. Wang Lijuan, Mr. Du Shenghai, two practitioners surnamed Shi and Li, and a graduate student who works as a school teacher.

On August 6, Liu Aiguo, Guo Hong and another officer with the last name Bao from the Dianliu Police Station led officers from the Lixia Police Department to Ms. Tang Xiulian's home. The police confiscated photos of the founder of Falun Gong, Falun Dafa books, a computer, copies of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, truth clarification materials and DVDs, and DVDs of Divine Performing Arts performances. Ms. Tang is being held at the Zhangzhuang Detention Center.

Mr. Feng Zhen, who had been sentenced to seven years in prison during an extrajudicial process, is being held at the Shayang Prison. His term is to end early October 2008.

On August 9, 2008, Liu Jianjun (male) and other officers from the Foyedong Police Station in Lingyuan City took into custody Ms. Shi Fengping, who lives in Xiaohexi Village. Ms. Shi was sentenced to one year of forced labor during an extrajudicial process in September 1999.

On August 9, Liu Jianjun and other officers also took into custody Mr. Li Zhen, who lives in Gaozhangzi Village in Foyedong Township.

The police searched Mr. Gu Mengcun's home and took him into custody. He managed to escape from the police station, but was forced to leave his hometown and go into hiding. On July 4, police tried to gain access to the home of another practitioner named Guo, who refused to open the door.

At around 10:00 a.m. on August 6, Ms. Huo Guifen, who lives in Shangjie District in Zhengzhou City, was followed while she was visiting a fellow practitioner's home. She was taken into custody. In the afternoon, the police searched her home. Since then, Ms. Huo is being unlawfully held at the Shangjie Detention Center.

On the afternoon of July 27, 2008, officers from the Meihuli Police Station took into custody Mr. Wang Yajie and searched his home in Nankai District, Tianjin. The police confiscated truth clarification materials. Mr. Wang is being held at the Nankai District Detention Center.

Ms. Zhang Jianhui, in her seventies, lives in Shimen County, Changde City. She is a retiree from the Shimen County Highway Department. Before the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the police called Ms. Zhang's oldest son and told him that his mother was to be taken to a brainwashing center the following day. Members of the "610 Office" and Director Ma of the Shimen County Highway Department threatened Ms. Zhang's children that if they did not return home from their work units out of town, the police would pressure their work units to fire them. For this reason, all of Ms. Zhang's children had to return from out of town to keep an eye on Ms. Zhang. The police gave them orders that they should not let their mother step out of her home while the Olympic Games were being held in Beijing.

The police have repeatedly harassed Ms. Zhang Jianhui and her family since July 1999.

Mr. Lin Xiaoquan lives in Group 6, Qingshi Village, Xinnong Township, Xindu District, Chengdu City. In August 2005, he was sentenced to three years in prison in an extrajudicial process by the Xindu District Court in Chengdu City and had been held at the Deyang Prison. His term ended this August. On August 14, his family arrived to take him home. As soon as they met him, officers from the Xinfan Police Station took him into custody again and refused to release him. Mr. Lin Xiaoquan is in extremely weak physical condition.

On August 9, Ms. Ji, who is in her fifties, was turned in to the police while talking to students about Falun Gong. Officers from the 110 crime response unit took her into custody.

On July 9, Ms. Kong Qian, who lives in the Development Zone in Weifang City, was taken to a detention center. She is on a hunger strike and in very weak condition.

Mr. Li Xinjian was taken into custody by officials from the Ze'erzhuang Police Station on April 6, 2007. In January 2008, he was taken to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp in a extrajudicial process. Early April, the labor camp authorities notified his work unit to take him back because of his poor health. On his way home, Mr. Li talked to the officials about Falun Gong, and was subsequently transferred to the Weifang Brainwashing Center.

Ms. Du Xiaohong was taken to a detention center for talking to people about Falun Gong on the evening of July 21. Ms. Du refused to cooperate in the detention center. Due to brutal treatment that she received there, she has developed symptoms of severe heart disease and is in critical condition.

Mr. Guo Daoyou is an employee of the Yuguan Town Fiber Factory in Funing County, Qinhuangdao City. He remains in custody at the Funing County Detention Center. Besides officers from the Yuguan Town Police Station, officials from the Yuguan Town Government and officers from the Funing County Domestic Security Division also participated in arresting him and searching his home.

Ms. Zhao Bingmei, Ms. Ding Shouxiang, Ms. Feng Xiuchun, and Ms. Wu Shuihua were taken into custody by the Jiaonan City police between June 4 and June 9, 2008. The four practitioners from Jiaonan City have been held at the Dashan Detention Center in Qingdao City. Their families have not been allowed to visit them.

The Jiaonan City Court is scheduled to place the four practitioners on trial at 10:00 a.m. on August 18. Mr. Du Xiangzhong and three other attorneys have volunteered to defend them.

A female practitioner in Hongkou District, commonly known as "Yingying," was previously held at a labor camp for practicing Falun Dafa. Using security precautions at the Beijing Olympics as a pretext, police recently took her to the Shanghai Forced Labor Camp again. Her daughter, who is in the third grade, and her mother, in her seventies, have to depend on relatives and friends in her absence. The police also confiscated Falun Dafa materials from her home.

At around 4:00 a.m. on July 1, Yin Zhiqiang, a Dakanxia Village official in Bailong Township, Mancheng County, and others took Ms. Lian Fengzhen, Ms. Sun Yingqiong, and Ms. Tian Zhixian into custody. Ms. Tian was released on the same day. The other two practitioners were first held at the detention center. 20 days later, they were sentenced to 18 months of forced labor and taken to the Shijiazhuang Women's Forced Labor Camp.

Mr. Wei Ximan in Weizhuang Village, Shenxing Town was taken by officials from the Bailong Township Police Station to the county detention center on July 3. He was soon sent to the Balizhuang Forced Labor Camp in Baoding City.

Mr. Mi Changjiang of Shouling Village, Chengguan Town was taken into custody by officers from the Chengguan Police Station, who forced their way into his home at 3:00 a.m. and confiscated Falun Dafa books. Within 15 days, Mr. Mi was unlawfully sentenced to forced labor.

On the afternoon of July 30, Ms. Ye Xiujuan in Xiazikou Village, Daceying Township was taken into custody by officers from the Daceying Police Station and the county domestic security division. The police confiscated all Falun Dafa books and cash in her home. They smashed window glass and doors. Ms. Ye was taken to the Shijiazhuang Women's Forced Labor Camp after being held at the county detention center for less than 15 days.

Mr. Mi Yuan and his son Mr. Mi Guohui in Shouling Village, Chengguan Town were taken into custody by officers of the Chengguan Police Station. Their home was searched. The two practitioners are being held at the county detention center.

Ms. Ma Lijie and Mr. Hao Mancang in Chengdong Village, Chengguan Town were taken into custody at their homes by police led by village official Jia Shu. The police conducted illegal searches at the home, and the two practitioners are being held at the county detention center.

Ms. Kuang, 78, lives in the Mengzhuiwan residential community in Chenghua District, Chengdu City. On July 31, 2007, officials of the Mengzhuiwan Neighborhood Administration Office lured her to the office on a pretense and then took her to the Xinjin Brainwashing Center. Ms. Kuang shouted "Falun Dafa is great!" She was released and returned home the same day.

At around 10:00 a.m. on July 22, Ms. He Changying and Ms. Liu Mingzhen from Da County were taken into custody on Nanwaizhen Street by the county police. The officers searched the home of Ms. Liu's daughter, confiscated a computer, a printer and some cash. Ms. Liu is being held at the Xuanhan County Detention Center. Ms. He is being held at the Da County No. 2 Detention Center.

Ms. Guo Chengyun, around 60 years old, is an amateur writer. She has been unlawfully held at the Chifu District office. Ms. Guo had previously been taken into custody in October 2007, after the police searched her home.

Ms. Zhong Shouzhen was taken into custody on July 18, 2008. Ms. Yin Zhengqun was also taken into custody in recent days.

Ms. Liao Chunrong, 35 or 36 years old, lives in Xining Township, Chuanshan District, Suining City. In April 2008, she was taken into custody in Juxian Township. She was released after being beaten at the Xining Police Station. On August 8, Ms. Liao was taken into custody again when she was on her way to Yufeng Town in Anju District, Suining City to clarify the truth.

Ms. Xiang Jian lives in the Huamu area in Pudong District, Shanghai. She was turned in to the police while clarifying the truth in public on July 22, 2008. She is being held at the Zhangjiang Detention Center in Pudong District.

On August 11, 2008, Mr. Tang Xuelin, who lives in the family quarters of the Suxian District Forestry Department in Chenzhou City, was taken into custody while he was handing someone a leaflet about Falun Gong. The police then searched his home.

Since July, four practitioners have been taken to the Shizhuyuan Brainwashing Center. They are Mr. Luo Xinqiu, Ms. Chen Liwen, Ms. Chen Jianmei, and Ms. Luo Meiqin. Ms. Zhou Xiaohong has been taken to the Beihu District Party School, where she is on a hunger strike. Ms. Zi Daoyu has returned home from detention. Ms. Li Yuenan, Mr. Tang Xuelin, Ms. Shi Jun'e, and Ms. Hou Xinu have been taken to the Chenzhou Detention Center. Mr. Cao Gaoqiang and Ms. Xiao Guijiao are being held at the Guiyang Detention Center. Mr. Fan Sanfa and Mr. Li Hualin are being held at the Anren Detention Center.

Mr. Lei Anxiang, Mr. Liao Songling, Mr. Liao Zhijun and Ms. Jiang Xilian, who were arrested on May 11 and May 12, 2008, will be unlawfully placed on trial around August 16.

Ms. Li Xiupei has been taken to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp to serve a one year term. She has refused to cooperate with labor camp rules and was left under the scorching sun every day in the summer as a form of torture.

Ms. Cao Lianxiang has been sentenced to 18 months of forced labor. It is not clear where she is being held. In the Sitaizi Detention Center in the Huanggu area, many practitioners are on a hunger strike. The guards have brutally force-fed them.

On August 6, Ms. Li Hua, Ms. Guan Cuiling and Ms. Wang Haixia were sentenced to one year of forced labor, and Mr. Li Deshan was sentenced to 18 months. They have all been taken to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp. Four other practitioners were taken there at the same time. Their names are not yet known.

Ms. Wu Yifang, in her fifties, from Zhengyang County, was taken into custody by three police officers. She has been unlawfully held at the Zhengyang County Detention Center for over a month.

Mr. Yang Xiaodong, who lives in Yangzhuang Village in Nandun Town, Xiangcheng City, was turned in to the police while clarifying the truth. At 5:00 p.m. on August 11, officers from the Xiangcheng City Domestic Security Division took him into custody. Mr. Yang is being held at the Xiangcheng Detention Center.

On August 6, when Mr. Li Changxing had just returned to his home in the Jiangjin area in Chongqing, Li Hongxia and other officers from the Degan Police Station took him into custody. Mr. Li is being held at the Jiangjin Detention Center.

Three practitioners have been unlawfully sentenced to prison. Mr. Jia Li'an was sentenced to seven years, Mr. Li Donghong, five years, and Mr. Zhang Qihua, four years. The three practitioners are being held at the Guizhou Province Police Hospital.

At the end of May 2008, Ms. Jiang Minchun was taken into custody by officers from the Wuling District Domestic Security Division. She was unlawfully sentenced to one year of forced labor after being released in less than a month and secretly taken to the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou City. Her husband, who suffers from cancer, has been left unattended in the meantime.

Ms. Yuan Dongnan was secretly taken to the Hunan Province Women's Prison early in the morning of August 8, 2008. Ms. Yuan was unlawfully sentenced to seven years in March 2008. She filed an appeal. A few months later, the Hunan Superior Court denied the appeal.

At around 6:00 p.m. on June 8, 2008, a group of police officers broke into Ms. Jiang Minqing's home using a set of master keys. They took Ms. Jiang to the Changde City No. 2 Detention Center. Ms. Jiang has since been transferred to the Linli County Detention Center.

In addition, Ms. Hong Ping is being held at the Linli County Detention Center.

The Shanghai police have kept Mr. Hua Shunfa under secret surveillance for a long time. Late July, they broke into his home and took him to the Xinzhuang Detention Center using security at the upcoming Olympic Games as a pretext.

On the afternoon of August 10, 2008, a couple who live in Yingjun Township in Erdao District, Changchun City were taken into custody at their home. In March 2008, Mr. Li Guochen, who lives in Weixing Village, was taken into custody by officers from the Sandao Police Station in Yingjun Township. Mr. Li has been taken to the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp. His young child and his ill father have been left unattended.

Ms. Liu Shuhua, an employee of the No. 4 Oil Extrication Factory, is being held at the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Center or the Harbin Women's Prison. She has been crippled by severe abuse. Her family is not aware of her injuries.

On July 4, 2008, officers from the Tieren Police Department in Daqing City took into custody Ms. Chen Yunxia and searched her home. The police also took into custody her husband Mr. Han Huanyu and their relative Ms. Zhao Li, who was visiting from out of town. Mr. Han was released after being held at the Sa District Detention Center for 15 days. Ms. Chen and Ms. Zhao were transferred to the Daqing City Detention Center after 15 days of unlawful custody. On July 30, Ms. Chen Yunxia and Ms. Zhao Li were sentenced to 18 months of forced labor. They have been taken to the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Center. Their families have not been notified.

Mr. Yuan Gensheng from Daqing City has been taken to the Suihua Forced Labor Camp.

On August 8, Ms. Su Mei was taken into custody. She is being held at the Qingyuan County Brainwashing Center.

Since July 14, fourteen practitioners in Qingyuan County have been taken into custody. They are: Mr. Li Shuangquan, Mr. Wang Daxing, Mr. Wang Dongliang, Mr. Wang Tongren, and Ms. Cui Yanru from Lizhuang Township; Mr. Li Baoshu, Mr. Li Junxi, Ms. Zhang Pinghua, and Ms. Ye Dixian from Baituan Township; Mr. Wang Jianlin and Mr. Wang Guozhong from Beiwangli Township; Mr. Gao Jinshu from Ranzhuang Town; and Ms. Qin Yanzhen from Wenren Town.

At around 10:00 a.m. on August 7, Mr. Zhang Jing from Lingbao City under the jurisdiction of Sanmenxia City, Henan Province, was taken into custody by officers from the Domestic Security Division of the Zhongyuan Police Department in Zhengzhou City.

Ms. Wang Xiuqin, Ms. Tang Hongying, and Mr. Han Zengqiang from the Lingbao area were taken into custody in September 2007. They remain in custody at the Lingbao Detention Center.

On July 31, 2008, the police took into custody Mr. Li Dantao, an employee of the Gezhou Dam Electric Factory in Yichang City, and his mother Ms. Wang Guangzhi. The officers also confiscated a computer and a printer at their home.

Ms. Song Mingchun and Ms. Chen Facui in Yiling District, Yichang City were taken into police custody on August 6. They are being held at the Yiling District Detention Center.

On July 8 or July 9, 2008, officers from the Taibaozhuang Township Police Station climbed over a wall to break into Ms. Qi Guiyu's home. No one was at home at the time. The police took four Falun Dafa books, a motorcycle, and raincoats. Ms. Qi and her son were forced into hiding and still have to stay away from home.

On the same day, the police took into custody Ms. Zhang Xiuxiang in Jiaxi Village. Her son had to pay the police 6,000 yuan in exchange for Ms. Zhang's release.

Mr. Tan Weichang, 37, who lives in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou Province, was taken to the Yuexiu Detention Center on September 23, 2007. He has been unlawfully held in custody for over a year while going through two trials. On August 11, 2008, the judge in the second trial sustained the original sentencing without a formal session. Mr. Tan is to serve three years of forced labor.

At around 5:00 p.m. on August 9, 2008, Ms. Huang Hua from Nanxi County in Yibin City was taken into custody by Li Zeming and three other state security officers in the Nanxi County while she was at work in a supermarket. The police searched Ms. Huang's home, confiscated several Falun Dafa books and recent articles published by the founder of Falun Gong. Ms. Huang was taken to the Nanxi County Police Department, where the "610 Office" is located. On August 11, officers from the "610 Office" officially placed Ms. Huang under detention. She is currently being held at the Nanxi County Detention Center.

The Nanxi County Police also took Ms. Chen Jianying in Fushun County into custody.

On July 20, Li Guojun, director of the Changheying Township Police Station in Beipiao City, unlawfully searched Mr. Liu Chundong's home while he was out for business. The police confiscated Falun Dafa books. On the same day, the officers intercepted Mr. Liu on his way home and took him to the Beipiao Detention Center. Mr. Liu was soon transferred to a place out of town.

On August 7, 2008, Mr. Li Tiancai and Ms. Han Donglan were taken into custody by the local police. They have been taken to the Jiangnan Party School Brainwashing Center in Tonghua City.

On August 11, officials of the Dafangshen Town Government and officers from the Yangshu Town Police station broke into Mr. Lu Junwen's home and took him into custody.

The same group of people then broke into Mr. Liu Lianbo's home in the same village. Mr. Liu was not at home. The officers then went to Erdao Village and Yangcao Village in Dafangshen Town to harass practitioners there. They lured Ms. Lu Qingxia to the police station on a pretense. When Ms. Lu went into the police station, the officers took her to the Dehui City Police Department. Two hours later, Ms. Lu managed to escape from the police department.

At around 7:00 a.m. on August 12, the same group broke into Ms. Liu Guizhi's home in Heiyu Village in Dafangshen Town. Ms. Liu, in her sixties, was taken into custody.

On August 5, Chen Lufa, commissioner of Pingjin Town, Shi Sibing, deputy commissioner, Chen Bing, director of the police station, and others broke into Mr. Luo Jiaoyu's home. Mr. Luo was not in. The police then coerced his father to go to Chongqing to look for him.

Song Chuanjian, Party Secretary of Mingyuehu Village in Pingjin Town, reported Mr. Luo Jiaoyu to the police in March 2006 for clarifying the truth. As a result, Mr. Luo was unlawfully detained for 15 days. At the end of 2006, Song borrowed an MP3 player from Mr. Luo Jiaoyu to listen to the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. Song immediately turned in the MP3 player to the Pingjin Town Police Station.
