The exhibition was open from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Some people came almost as soon as it opened. Many appeared very moved by the pieces and especially saddened by the scenes of persecution.
Living in a western democratic country, it was hard for many of the viewers to understand how such atrocities could still be happening in China in the 21st century. A professor talked with a Falun Gong practitioner for over an hour. The practitioner told her, "I am an American citizen, but I cannot visit China because I am on the blacklist of the CCP. My father is in his eighties. My mother passed away three years ago, but I could not go to her funeral." Tears came to the professor's eyes. She was appalled when hearing about the lengths the CCP goes to to indoctrinate Chinese people with Communist Party propaganda, even teaching children songs that say that the CCP is like their mother.
Many visitors talked with exhibition guides for a long time. Some returned for a second visit. Some brought their friends the second time around. A young man asked a practitioner why the fliers in Chinatown criticized the CCP. Wasn't China good? The exhibition guide patiently told him about the atrocities of the CCP since it seized power, emphasizing the distinction between the CCP and the country of China. He spent more than two hours at the exhibition. He finally told the guide, "What you are doing is very significant! You should continue until the end of the persecution!"
An undergraduate student named Tiffany asked where she could get a copy of Zhuan Falun. A guide told her it was available online. She looked a little disappointed about not being able to get a copy of the book right away. When another guide gave her the Zhuan Falun book that was being used for display, she was overjoyed and sincerely expressed her appreciation.
