(Clearwisdom.net) On January 3, 2009, the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) New York Company had its third show at Ottawa's National Arts Center. Many in the audience were moved by the dance drama "Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution." The story is about the unwavering spirit of a Falun Gong practitioner that is persecuted. Ms. Huang, an official at the Canadian Health Ministry, talked about her impression of this program after the show, "Falun Gong practitioners are firm with strong willpower. I wish the persecution would stop due to all their persistent efforts."
Ms. Huang majored in health and medicine at the National Taiwan University. She has been in Canada for over 30 years. This is the third time she has seen a DPA show with her husband. "Now that I can finally see a terrific performance of traditional Chinese culture, I am very moved and excited."
She loved the costumes and thought this was the most special of the DPA performances so far. She also admired the stage set-up and how the background was part of the story. She also liked the style of the hosts, "They use English, French, and Chinese to introduce every program. This made it possible for non-Chinese speakers to understand a story such as 'The Monkey King Triumphs.'"
Ms. Huang believed many were impressed with the drums, "Those not from China often have the misconception that Chinese art shows are slow. After they see such an energetic performance and experience the excellent dancing and music, they will be very, very impressed."
Ms. Huang explained that Chinese culture is based on Buddhism, which has been around for thousands of years. She believed that the program successfully conveyed to the audience why the Chinese Communist Party suppressed Falun Gong, "My boss was sitting upstairs tonight. He is an Israeli and used to be persecuted. I'm sure that he will go home and tell his friends to come and see the DPA show. He will say, 'You will understand the truth about Falun Gong after you see it.'"
