Education Bureau Chief: Divine Performing Arts Teaches People to Respect God and Care for Others
Mr. Wu Chingshan is Taipei's Educational Bureau Chief. He said DPA helped audience members learn about China's five thousand years of history and culture, and the beauty of their literature. "Throughout the show, we enjoyed many legendary stories. For instance, the dance The Monkey King Triumphs depicted the story of Journey to the West, and Monk Ji Gong Abducts the Bride, illustrated the spirit of helping the endangered and saving lives. I was very moved by these acts."
Mr. Wu Chingshan
Mr. Wu was very impressed with the beauty of the show. For instance, in the "Mongolian Chopsticks" dance, the audience can see Mongolian culture, and the beauty of the landscape. "It is like a banquet of beauty, combining technology and dancing. This can fill our soul, and raise up our values."
As Education Bureau Chief, Mr. Wu said "If teachers and students come to watch the show, they can see the beauty of humanity and the arts. They can enjoy the music, the painting, and the dance." But what was the most impressive to Mr. Wu is how Divine Performing Arts taught people to respect gods, care about others, and accumulate virtue.
This year, in order to encourage teachers to come, the Education Bureau allowed each teacher to gain three hours of research time if they saw the show. Mr. Wu said, "Modern curriculum development is geared towards combining humanity and arts together. Hence, teachers that came to watch DPA would know how to teach, and students who came to watch would know how to learn." That is why he listed watching DPA as part of the teachers' training, and it is very helpful to teachers' career development.
Finally, Mr. Wu added, "Chinese culture is one of the world's treasures. We should develop the five thousand years of culture, and let the whole world know the rich beauty of Chinese culture. The inner meaning expressed through DPA is perfectly graceful, giving people a unique feeling. Today, it is an elegant feast, my mind and soul are so full."
Director-general of a Management & International Trade Institute: The World Needs Truthfulness- Benevolence-Forbearance
Dr. Tsai Fengming, director-general of a management & international trade institute, said after watching the performance, "The performance has unique implications, and it encourages people to improve themselves." He also commented that the backdrop design of the stage was so vivid that he felt as though he were there on the scene. Dr. Tsai praised the notion of saving all sentient beings, as illustrated in the program Monk Ji Gong Abducts the Bride. He added that the costume design of the show was outstanding, and quite different from ordinary performances.
Being a professional involved in top management and international trade, Dr. Tsai believes that watching DPA is beneficial to high-level management. He said, "In fact, [being in] top management does not mean executives can keep aloof and alienate themselves from common people. Instead, it points to continuous study and exploration to upgrade and cultivate oneself. Executives should keep learning and never become complacent, because there is no graduation for top management." The part that moved him is how one must be compassionate because of their inner quality, as manifested by DPA.
Dr. Tsai said the DPA is beneficial to individuals, society, and the country. He added, "If everyone knows Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and practices them in daily life, we will surely have better social harmony and faster nationwide progress."
Lions Club Official Impressed with Lead Dancer
Ms. Lei Hanyin, director of International Lions Club's 300A District Association, said, "It's so rare to see such a performance. The choreography, performers and the vocalists were all divine. They manifested a very high level arts atmosphere."
She particularly praised the female lead dancer. "Her body language was very gentle. I could not take my eyes off her. Her gestures devoutly showed spiritual content. They were very vivid."
Tenor Guan Guimin's songs also awed Ms. Lei. "His song was genuinely wonderful."
Besides, she said the three dimensional scenery is very unique.
Businessman: The Pure Beauty Moved People
Attracted by Divine Performing Arts' (DPA) popularity, Mr. Zheng Wenlon, chairman of the China Shipbuilding Corporation Taiwan (CSBC) and former deputy mayor of Kaohsiung City Government, attended the DPA show in Taipei on Feb. 28. Touched by the magnificence of the program, he said, "The DPA show was indeed beautiful, amazing, and touching."
Although having majored in engineering, Mr. Zheng loves to read classic Chinese books, and is knowledgeable about traditional culture. When seeing the DPA so vividly presenting the plots of Chinese historical novels in the form of dance, he was so impressed that he was brought to tears. He said, "I was really touched by the show. It's beyond words. My eyes could not help brimming with tears.
"The landscapes [on the backdrops] were so beautiful and vivid. And the backdrops matched the dancers perfectly. It was the first time I saw performers disappearing into the backdrops from the stage, and vice versa. That was really very special."
"Sometimes engineering people tend to have rigid mindsets and are usually rather stubborn, as they might lack training in aesthetics." Despite the fact that he said that he didn't know much about aesthetics and lacked sensitivity, he stressed that he was overwhelmed by the magnificence of the DPA.
He reiterated that it was beyond words in terms of how much he was touched by the show. "For instance, one color on the stage might touch me so much, not to mention the diverse colors and other elements presented at the same time. So it was a complicated feeling."
