(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 28 cities or counties in 16 provinces. In this report, 46 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 30 practitioners were illegally arrested.

Ms. Liu Jingyan lives at Wangjiang Town in the suburbs of Jiamusi City. She was taken into custody by the Hongxinglong Police Department for telling others about the persecution in July 2008. She was unlawfully sentenced to prison. Four months ago, Ms. Liu was transferred to Harbin Women's Prison.

Her family went to visit Liu Jingyan in late January or early February in 2009. She was held in a concentration division. Her health was poor. She suffered high blood pressure and poor vision, among other physical problems. The prison authorities have rejected her children's adamant demands for her release.

On the afternoon of April 21, Ms. Liao Xiaohong and her husband Mr. Shi Jiaoyu were taken into custody while at home. Over 20 police officers broke in and handcuffed the couple. Ms. Liao and Mr. Shi are in their thirties. They had been illegally sentenced to forced labor or prison in the past.

Ms. Wu Chenran, who lives in Jinzhou City, was taken into custody in June 2008. She has remained in custody at the Gaocheng Detention Center until now. She has been placed on trial. She has become extremely weak recently and has had trouble digesting food. Her family has been notified. Ms. Wu was also taken to the Jinzhou Hospital for a blood test. She remains in custody at the Gaocheng Detention Center.

In addition, the following practitioners from Jinzhou City were taken into custody around June 2008 and have been placed on trial with Ms. Wu: Minshuang (first name, female), Yanmin (first name, female), Ms. Lu Duancai, Mr. Wu Changbin, and Elderly Zhang. They remain in custody at the Jinzhou Detention Center.

On April 14, 2009, Ms. Zhang Yujie was telling others about the persecution at a farm market in Chaoshui Town in Penglai City. Officers in Chaoshui Town took her into custody. Her family has not heard anything from her since her illegal arrest.

Mr. Zhao Wenjia was taken to a forced labor camp just before the Beijing Olympics in August 2008. He refused to cooperate with labor camp guards and was often held in isolation in a Small Cell. He suffered damage to his health recently. He was rushed to the Dalian City No. 3 Hospital. Uniformed guards or officers have been dispatched to the hospital to watch him around the clock.

At around 4:00 a.m. or 5:00 a.m. on April 18, Aiqun (first name, female) was taken into custody by officers from the Qicun Police Station. Her home was unlawfully searched.

Mr. Jian Xuefu, 39, is from Guangshan County, Xinyang City. He was taken into custody around September 3, 2008. He suffered inhuman torture at the Guangshan Detention Center. He even suffered memory loss for some time.

In December 2008, Mr. Jian was "illegally sentenced" to six years in prison. None of his family was notified. On the morning of March 25, 2009, he was secretly taken to Zhengzhou Prison in Xinmi City. This is the second time Mr. Jian was sentenced to prison.

Ms. He Ruidong, 60, has been held at the No. 2 Division of the Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp. Several inmates who were drug addicts viciously beat her. She was then held in a concentration division, where practitioners receive the most severe abuse in the labor camp. Drug addicts are assigned to beat and curse at practitioners arbitrarily around the clock. Practitioners are deprived of sleep. Ms. He was beaten so severely that she had to be carried to a hospital. Her current situation is not known.

Ms. Jiang Deying, 56, is an associate professor at the Hunan Normal Institute. On April 16 she was taken to a brainwashing center.

Mr. Peng Xinghua, 71, is from Guangshui City, Hubei Province. On December 7, 2008, he went to the Zhaosu Reclamation District in Yili City, Xinjiang Autonomous Region, to visit relatives and friends. Officers from the Zhaosu Reclamation District placed him in criminal detention because he talked about the persecution and Falun Gong. Mr. Peng has been has been held at the Zhaosu Reclamation District Detention Center affiliated with the No. 77 Regiment of the No. 4 Battalion of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. It has been reported recently that Mr. Peng faces an unlawful trial after the May 1 holiday season.

Around 5:00 a.m. on February 28, 2009, Ms. Jiang Fang was taken into custody. She was later taken from the Weifang Detention Center to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp, where she was severely abused. She had to be taken to the hospital twice. The labor camp guards have also extorted cash from her family.

Mr. Dong Quanhui, a resident of Lijiazhuang Village, Huanggezhuang Town, Fengnan District, Tangshan City, was taken into custody on February 21, 2009. He was sentenced to two years of forced labor. Mr. Dong's father has been handicapped and bedridden. He had been taken care of by Mr. Dong for years. When he learned that his son was unlawfully sentenced to two years of forced labor, he passed away in anger and grief on April 4.

On April 8, 2009, Ms. Bai Li, who lives in Taonan City, Jilin Province, was taken into custody by three officers led by Zhang Zhiqiang, head of the Taonan City Domestic Security Division. Zhang deprived Ms. Bai of sleep for 48 hours while interrogating her. Ms. Bai has been taken to the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp.

Ms. Zhu Renfang, in her sixties, lives in the Shunqing District of Nanchong City. On the morning of April 8 officers from the Wangjia Town Police Station in Nanbu County took her into custody. She was taken to the Nanbu County Detention Center the same evening.

At the end of 2000, leaders at the headquarters of the Urban Construction Design Institute expelled practitioners who continued to practice Falun Gong, including Mr. Xi Jishun, Ms. Wang Hui, Mr. Ran Gong, and Ms. Zhang Jing. Ms. Zhang had worked for the institute for over ten years by then. The leaders tried to reclaim the apartment given to Ms. Zhang but did not succeed.

At the end of 2008 Ms. Zhang was again taken into police custody. Leaders of the institute filed a lawsuit against her in order take back her apartment. Ms. Zhang has been taken to the dispatching division, pending unlawful forced labor sentencing.

Ms. Xu Jiayan, who lives in Beihai City, was taken into custody at the fashion storefront she operated on April 22, 2009. She has been taken to the Pingyang Drug Rehabilitation Center in Beihai City.

Mr. Dong Guangwen, in his fifties, lives in the Yinzezhou Residential Community in the Nancaiyuan area in Yanqing County, Beijing. On April 21, 2009, he was taken into custody at work by officers from the Yanqing County 610 Office and the Chengguan Police Station. His home was searched. By 10:00 a.m. he was taken to the Chengguan Police Station in handcuffs. He was transferred to a detention center in the afternoon. The police confiscated three computers, DVD burners, blank DVDs, and over 2,000 yuan in cash from his home.

The Urumqi City Intermediate Court and "Procuaratorate" have scheduled court sessions on May 6 to place four practitioners on trial. The practitioners are Mr. Cao Hongqi, Mr. Zou Kewen, Mr. Zhu Kui (on parole), and Mr. Ma Chunwang (on parole).

In addition, other practitioners in Urumqi, Ms. Chen Xiulan (in her seventies), Ms. Li Yulan (65 years old), Ms. Xu Rong (disabled), and a practitioner with the last name Fu (70 years old) were taken into custody while having a group Fa study at Ms. Chen's home on June 28, 2008. The police confiscated Falun Dafa books and brochures exposing the persecution. The four practitioners were placed on trial on December 29, 2008. No sentences have been handed down as yet.

Ms. Zhang Wenqing, in her sixties, lives in Dongguan Town, Gaoping District, Nanchong City. On the morning of March 28, 2009, she was taken into custody at the farm market in Huilong Town, Gaoping District, by a middle-aged man, who did not wear a uniform. Ms. Zhang's whereabouts are unknown.

On the afternoon of April 21, 2009, Ms. Liao Xiaohong and Mr. Li Xiangqian from Chenzhou City were taken into custody by members of the Chenzhou City 610 Office and state security officers. The officers searched their homes. Also taken into custody at the same time were Mr. Ma from Changsha City and a female practitioner who has been forced to leave her hometown and has no place to live.

People saw the police take a computer, a printer, a DVD burner, and some brochures from the home of He, who was not arrested. Ms. Liao and Mr. Li's wife were released after police interrogation. They have been placed under surveillance at their homes.

On April 20, 2009, Mr. Sun Zhijie, who teaches at the No. 2 Elementary School, was taken into custody by the Fusong County Police Department. He was released the same day. The police subsequently took into custody Ms. Dong Jie, a practitioner around 40 years old.

On July 30, 2008, 18 officers led by Wang Meirong, director of the Wanqiu Police Station, climbed over the wall to break into Ms. Cai Huilian's home to take her into custody. They stuffed her mouth with a towel. The police searched her home, took 10 cassette tapes, a tape recorder, three boxes of Falun Gong exercise tapes, a copy of Zhuan Falun, two copies of Hong Yin, and two copies of Clearwisdom Weekly. Ms. Cai was taken to the Wanqiu Police Station and transferred to the Miyi County Police Department the same night, where eight practitioners were held in a room. The practitioners were forced to watch videos, listen to tapes, and read brochures that defamed Falun Dafa.

The practitioners were photographed. Whoever refused to cooperate was hit with bottles filled with water or even burned with cigarettes. Practitioners who shouted "Falun Dafa is great" had a black cloth bag put over their heads. They were dragged to an undisclosed location, where they were handcuffed with their arms twisted behind their backs. The officers pressed the practitioners' heads against the wall. They then placed bottles of drinking water on the practitioners' heads. They viciously beat practitioners if the bottles fell off their head and landed on the ground. Seven days later, the police demanded the source of the brochures with truth-clarification content. Anyone who refused to give out the source had their picture taken and was ordered recite the detention center regulations. Anyone who still refused to comply was forced to stay for one more month of unlawful custody. The practitioners were held for 45 days. They were released only after paying 400 yuan in extortion.

A week later, the police went to the town where Ms. Cai Huilian lives to harass her again. They ordered her to turn in her residential identification card. On December 18 when Ms. Cai returned from Chengdu after visiting her relatives, she was body searched. The police confiscated a copy of Zhuan Falun.

On March 31, 2009, Mr. Han Fu in Xihe Township, Shulan Cit,y went to visit Mr. Yang Guoshu. Officers from the Huancheng Police Station in Shulan City took him into custody. His family asked the police several times to release him but to no avail.

On April 15, Mr. Han's wife, mother and 10-year-old daughter went the Shulan City Police Department to demand his release. Wang Ximin, an officer at the police department, refused to talk to them. He cursed at them and drove them away.

On April 16, Mr. Han's family went to the Huancheng Police Station to report the mistreatment. Sun Yaoqiang, deputy director at the police station, drove Mr. Sun's family out the door.

On April 17, Mr. Han's family again went to the Huancheng Police Staion. The police pushed Mr. Han's older brother (who suffered a recent stroke) to the ground. Zou Zhongxiang, an officer, tried to push them out of the office. He ripped Mr. Han's wife's clothes and dragged her downstairs. The police threatened to handcuff Mr. Han's family and ordered them not to come around again.

Officials have often mixed unknown medical substances into the food of practitioners who are firm in their belief. Anyone who eats this altered food has become slow in their reactions and they tend to behave strangely.

28. [Guizhou Province] Guards at Zhongba Women's Prison Order Inmates Assigned to Monitor Ms. Zhang Juying to Mix Unknown Drugs in Her Food

Mr. Wei Danquan was expelled from the Shanhaiguan Aircraft Factory in Hebei Province for practicing Falun gong. He has been taken to forced labor camps several times. He is being held at the Jidong Prison in Tangshan City, Hebei Province. He is extremely weak and suffers from severe tuberculosis. His life is in imminent danger. The prison officials have asked the Shanhaiguan Police Department to take Mr. Wei out of prison lest he die there. However, He Yawei, chief of the Shanhaiguan Police Department, and other officials have turned down their requests.

On April 19, 2009 Ms. Shen Jiafeng, Ms. Sheng Chaoju, and Ms. Zheng Zifang from Huili County went to the No. 4 Division of Lachong Township in Huili County to distribute DVDs of performances by the New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts. They were turned into the police. Officers from the Huili County Domestic Security Division took the three practitioners into custody. Ms. Shen and Ms. Sheng are being held at the detention center. Ms. Zheng is being held at a temporary custody facility.

On April 20 Ms. Li Guixia, a practitioner who lives in Longhua County, was taken into custody by Wang Shumin, head of the Longhua County Domestic Security Division, and other officers.

Mr. Liao Xiaohong, around 37, went to the Chenzhou Railroad Station to pick up a fellow practitioner from Changsha City, Hunan Province, on April 30, 2009. A group of police officers took him into custody. His wife, Ms. Shi, and the practitioner from Changsha City were also taken into custody. The police also searched his home. They confiscated four computers and took possession of over 100,000 yuan in cash. Ms. Shi was released on April 21. However the police continued to follow and monitor her.

Mr. Shu Wei was taken into custody by police officers who deceived him in Changchun City, Jilin Province. Zhang Zhiqiang, head of the domestic security division, and other officers took him back to Taonan City. He has been held at the Baicheng City Detention Center. Recently Mr. Shu was unlawfully sentenced to four years in prison at the Taonan City Court. He filed an appeal. The court sustained the original sentence.

At around 9:20 p.m. on April 21, several practitioners were taken into custody during a Fa-study session at a practitioner's home on Renshou Road in the Qiaokou District in Wuhan City.

Ms. Wang Zhaoyun had to be taken to a hospital as a result of severe abuse by officers from the Weibin Police Department. When she was staying at the No. 409 Hospital, the medical expenses exceeded 6,000 yuan. Her family had to pay over 5,000 yuan. Later Ms. Wang returned home for continued treatment. Officers from the Weibin Police Department demanded 1,000 yuan as a "deposit." Ms. Wang continues to be harassed and persecuted by the police.

At noon on April 17, 2009, Mr. Liu Sizu was taken into custody at home by officers from the Xingqing District Police Department. He has been held at the Yinchuan Detention Center.

Mr. Zhang Lihua of Zhaoyuan Farm in Heilongjiang Province was taken into custody on February 9, 2009. He has been unlawfully held at the Suihua Farm Reclamation Detention Center. The Suihua Farm Reclamation Court is scheduled to sentence him to prison on April 24.

Mr. Zhang Ruishan, who lives in Huanghuadian Township in the Wuqing District of Tianjin, has been held at Gangbei Prison for over five months. His family was denied their right to visit him in March and April. His family argued with the prison guards. Several guards took pictures of his family members while threatening them.

On April 13, 2009, half a dozen officers from the Domestic Security Division of the Qingpu Police Department in Huai'an City broke into a printing and typing store operated by Mr. Chen Shao and his wife, Ms. Zheng Hongxia. The police took all four computers from the store. They then searched the couple's home and confiscated several copies of Zhuan Falun and brochures. Mr. Chen was taken into custody. He is being held at the Chuzhou District Detention Center in Huai'an City.

On March 8, Ms. Ning Shuixian, Ms. Gao Guofeng, Ms. Meng Qinglan, and Ms. Lu Huiwen did not wear their badges at the Qianjin Forced Labor Camp. Zhang Bo and other guards dragged the practitioners outside. The guards kicked them, punched them, and beat them with mop handles.

Practitioners at the labor camp had to engage in forced labor from before daybreak until late at night. The heaters were turned off in the workshops as early as February. Most practitioners suffered frostbite on their hands and feet.

At around 8:00 p.m. on April 20, officers led by Tian Jiangtao, head of the Domestic Security Division in the Yuhu District Police Department in Xiangtan City, members of the 610 Office, and officers from the Pingzheng Road Police Station split into two groups. One group searched Ms. Zhang Xingqi's daughter's storefront. The police rolled down the aluminum door, searched the place, and examined the computer but did not find anything.

The other group, led by Tian Jiangtao, searched the home of Ms. Zhang's daughter. The officers confiscated three portraits of the founder of Falun Gong and a copy of Hong Yin, as well as a cassette player for Ms. Zhang's granddaughter to listen to music.

At around 5:30 p.m. on April 8, 2009, Mr. Liu Ming and his wife, Ms. Zhang Maoyunin, of Yanzhou City, were secretly taken into custody. The police confiscated a computer and other personal items. It has been reported that this is the fourth time Mr. Liu has been taken into police custody.

Ms. Li Chuanlan from Heilin Village and Ms. Liu Shuyan from Yinjia Village in Heilinzi Town, Yushu City, were taken into custody by a dozen officers led by Li Wei, an officer at the Heilin Town Police Station. The two practitioners were subsequently taken to a detention center. Their homes were searched. Ms. Li's father, almost 80 years old, has been left unattended.

Mr. Huang Zuoren, 74, and his wife, Ms. Liu Xingbi, 42, live on Shixian Road in the Wanzhou District.

At around 9:00 p.m. on April 27, 2009, three big policemen, led by Yang Xia, an officer from the Wanzhou District Police Department, broke into the couple's home. They took Mr. Huang and his wife into custody. The two practitioners are being held at the Zhoujiaba Detention Center.

Ms. Liu Peizhi lives at the former family quarters of the Electric Department in Zhucheng City. In mid-March, officers from the Shunwang Street Police Station took her into custody and searched her home. The police confiscated a computer, a printer, Falun Dafa books, and other items.

Ms. Yang Shuyi was taken into custody by officers who took orders from Zhang Qingchun, head of the Dehui City Domestic Security Division; Li Jin, the political head; and Yuan Fengshan, deputy chief of the police department. The police threatened to take Ms. Yang directly to a forced labor camp.

At around 9:00 a.m. on April 17, two plainclothes officers from the Ganghua Police Station broke into Ms. Wang Wenjie's home. They forcibly took Ms. Wang with them. The officers lied to her family that she was to return shortly. Her family has not heard a word from her since then. Her whereabouts remain unknown.
