(Clearwisdom.net) During the past ten years, Ms. Li Shulan from Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province has been continuously persecuted by the government authorities, the police from the police stations and the State Security Division of the Qinhuangdao City Police Department.
Ms. Li started practicing Falun Gong on March 2, 1997. Her health condition was poor before but had improved dramatically afterwards. She regained her health and mental clarity from the practice as well.
After the persecution started, different levels of government officials had continuously monitored Ms. Li and persecuted her. They often came to her home and tried to force her to hand in all her Falun Gong books. They forced her to stop practicing, and pressured her family to monitor her.
On June 6, 1999, Ms. Li and three practitioners went to Beijing to appeal. At Tiananmen Square, the plainclothes police officers arrested them and took them to a stadium. On the evening of the same day, they were sent back to their township government office, then the officials from the Politics and Law Division of the township government sent them home.
Since then, the officials from the Politics and Law Division and the village office often came to Ms. Li's home to harass her. When her mother was ill, Ms. Li went to her home to tend to her mother. However, Hu Guoshan, an official from the Politics and Law Division, and Yang Baokun, an officer from the State Security Division followed her there and harassed her relatives.
One night, the director and the police officers of the Haiyang Town Police Station arrested Ms. Li and the three practitioners who went to Beijing with her. They were detained at the police station. They forcibly took pictures of the practitioners and then forced each of them to write a giving up the practice and agreeing not going to Beijing to appeal. They were released in the morning on the next day. At around 9 a.m. on September 12, 2002, the police from the State Security Division and the local police station broke into Ms. Li's home and handcuffed her. They ransacked her home and even searched the furnace. They confiscated the Falun Gong books, pictures of the founder of Falun Gong, Falun Gong lecture videotapes, audio tapes, radios, sitting mats and incense. They detained Ms. Li at the State Security Division. She was locked onto an iron chair for 24 hours.
On the next day, the officers tortured Ms. Li. They tied her upper body tightly with a very thin cow-tender made of string which caused her extreme pain. They slapped her so hard that her teeth became loose. Her two arms had been numb for more than 6 months after the torture.
After the torture, they sent her to the detention center and she was detained there for 15 days. Then they called her family and extorted money from them. They threatened to send her to the Tangshan City Forced Labor Camp if they refused. Her family was forced to pay 7,000 yuan. However, three days after she went back home, they extorted another 3,000 yuan from her family.
A few days later, three police cars came to Ms. Li's home. The police officers from the State Security Division and the Haiyang Town Police Station threatened to send her to the brainwashing facility since the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China would hold their meeting in a few days. Li Shoufeng, the party secretary of Haiyang Town and officer Niu (given name unknown) from the State Security Division threatened her family and sent the police officers to monitor her and restrict her freedom.
On October 13, 2004, Ms. Li and two practitioners went to the countryside to distribute Falun Gong materials to inform the public about the persecution. But they were reported to the authorities. The police from the Shenhe Police Station arrested them and detained them in the Shenhe Police Station. One practitioner was tied to an iron pole and then beaten. Ms. Li was handcuffed to a hot water pipe. The police from the Haiyang Town Police Station took them back and then ransacked their homes. They confiscated Falun Gong books, DVD players, radios and other items totaling more than 2,000 yuan.
At the police station, Ms. Li managed to escape. To avoid being arrested again, she did not go home until after six months. After she came back, Liu Changhui and other police officers from the Haiyang Town Police Station, Tian Shuchun and other police officers from the State Security Division often came to her home to check on her and harass her. Her home telephone was tapped and she had to inform the officers before going anywhere.
