(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Zhang Chuanduo was a lieutenant in the Harbin Public Security Firefighter Unit. On December 31, 1999, however, he was fired from his job because he refused give up his belief in Falun Gong. On November 30, 2000, he was illegally arrested by Nangang Subdivision Bureau. After he was released shortly thereafter, officials again ordered his arrest, and he was forced to become homeless for over two years to avoid further persecution. During that time, the Public Security Bureau put out an all-points-bulletin for his arrest and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) offered a 30,000 yuan reward for his arrest. The CCP officials harassed his family members and friends in their efforts to find him.
On May 19, 2003, Mr. Zhang was arrested at a truth-clarification material production site by police from Nangang Subdivision Bureau. While being detained at the Nangang Subdivision Bureau, he was fed only two meals a day consisting of cereal. Subsequently, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was imprisoned at the No. 3 Harbin Prison for 6 months and then transferred to the Mudanjiang Prison, where he is still currently detained. His family was not notified of the transfer until later.
Because Mr. Zhang refused to give up practicing Falun Gong in prison, he was repeatedly beaten by guards and inmates. In November 2009, the guards bribed inmates to beat Falun Gong practitioners who would not give up their faith. Eight inmates severely beat Mr. Zhang and his body was covered with disfiguring bruises. In order to cover up their crime, the prison authorities then deprived him of visitation rights for three months.
Mr. Zhang's wife Lin Yongmei also persecuted
Zhang Chuanduo's wife, Lin Yongmei, was a staff member at the Harbin No. 4 Medicine Factory. However, she was no longer allowed to work there after the start of the persecution in 1999. Afterward, authorities gave her very little compensation of just 200 yuan a month.
Ms. Lin was arrested by the Nangang Subdivision Bureau at the end of 2000 and sentenced to one year in a labor camp.
In 2004, Ms. Lin's factory employer deceptively asked her to come back to work, claiming that they would give her a normal salary. When she showed up, however, they sent her to Wuchang Brainwashing Center, where she was severely tortured. She was released after 40 days.
