(Clearwisdom.net) OMAHA, Nebraska--"I like it a lot. I think it's really exciting," said Richard Alcala, a retired business manager, when he saw Shen Yun Performing Arts at the beautiful Orpheum Theater in Omaha on April 20.
"This is an experience that you should not miss. It's just that good. The costuming is wonderful and all the other [things], but the dancers are also really wonderful."
Mr. Alcala used to be a regional manager for a large retail chain store. He then had the opportunity to teach history at a high school in Omaha, so it was no surprise he enjoyed the New York-based Shen Yun's depiction of China's 5,000 years of history. It is a lesson in culture, ancient legends, and present day stories brought to the stage through music and dance.
"I'm learning a little bit more about Chinese culture," he said.
"I am amazed at the spirituality. ... now it's making more sense to me because of what they were singing in the songs. That's a new insight for me into the Chinese culture.
"This spirituality I didn't know existed. You know, everybody knows right from wrong. All cultures have that, but there is an underlying something, there was something more here than I first thought."
The Shen Yun Orchestra combines traditional Chinese and classical Western instruments, resulting in a very unique sound, which Mr. Alcala really enjoyed. "The music is very complementary. It's more in tune with what I think of as Chinese music, not so much Western or Eastern."
Richard Alcala (R), a retired manager.
