After being released in May 2006, she was closely monitored by the officers from the local 610 Office, and by officers from the Domestic Security Division. She was subsequently forced to become homeless to escape further persecution. She returned home in May of 2009, and the local police installed cameras on the building opposite Ms. Li's home, to monitor from window to window. Although the north side of the building has a bathroom and a kitchen, the police still monitored Ms. Li through the windows all year long.
The police also installed a camera at the entrance to Ms. Li's home, and installed a bright light so they could see clearly who went in and out at night. In addition, the police encouraged the neighbors and the safeguards to monitor Ms. Li on sensitive dates. People were sent to Ms. Li's home to monitor her around the clock. Whenever she went out, she was closely followed. One rainy day, Lu Xueming, deputy director of the Xihe Community, led two other women to closely follow Ms. Li to the supermarket.
On April 18, 2010, Ms. Li's mother, who is in her eighties, came to Kunshan to visit her. She was unexpectedly frightened as soon as she got off the train because a group of people had followed Ms. Li to the railway station. They were from the local 610 Office and the Domestic Security Division. Ms. Li's mother couldn't sleep for the entire night and suffered a heart attack the next day.
