Over 100 members of the Divine Land Marching Band came from Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa. They performed six selections: "Falun Dafa Is Good," "Fa Drums," "Fa Rectifies the Universe," "Deliver the Treasure," "Falun King," and "Maple Leaf Forever."
Ethelyn Mosher, a retired publisher who lives in Nova Scotia, was in Ottawa on a family vacation. She was glad to be able to see the band's performance on the last day of the Tulip Festival. She said, "We are very impressed about why they are doing this. Truth, Compassion and Forbearance are one thing we all want. It is a wonderful way to celebrate."
Ernest Dynie retired from Nortel. His son was a yoga teacher and then became interested in Falun Gong. "I think (Falun Gong)'s great. It's just unfortunate that, in China, the regime doesn't recognize that and is suppressing it."
Mr. Dynie used to see the Divine Land Marching Band perform on TV, but this was the first time he was able to see it up close in person. "I just love it because I think a lot of us here in Canada, we don't see much of that unless it's on TV. But to see it live like this--it's something everyone should see. We're just spending a good 15 minutes, but I really enjoy it."
When he heard that the Chinese Embassy had tried to prevent the Divine Land Marching Band from performing at the Tulip Festival three years ago, he commented, "It's mind-boggling how (the Chinese regime)'s influence is actually stretching out to the rest of the world. I mean, we have the freedom of expression here. I think it's about time (the Chinese authorities) turn around and allow people more freedom."
Ms. Kang brought her two teenage girls to see the performances. She enjoyed what she heard and saw, saying, "It was fantastic. The conductor did a great job. The costumes looked good and the music was enjoyable."
