(Clearwisdom.net) One winter morning, I went out to buy some eggs. The vendor, a middle-aged farmer who rode a tricycle, looked quite cold. After selecting my eggs, I put them on a scale to weigh them.
Just then, I noticed that the vendor was sadly looking at several cracked eggs, which, of course, he could not sell.
Feeling sorry for him, I took the damaged eggs and put them on the scale. He was both surprised and delighted as he muttered, "Oh, my angel, I met my angel!"
On my way home, my heart was delighted. But it was not the same excitement or satisfaction that I had experienced in the past after being praised or flattered. Rather, it was a delight that came from having assimilated to the Fa.
Master said,
"if every one of us ...considers others first when taking any action, human society would become better and ethical standards would again rise." (Zhuan Falun, 2000 edition, Lecture Nine, People with Great Inborn Quality)
When I first heard these words, I said to myself that I should learn how to consider others first and not be so worried about losing out. In other words, all along I've held the notion that considering others first meant suffering some type of loss.
Through this experience with the vendor, I came to realize that, by considering others first, we will naturally feel joy in our hearts, a joy that springs from the divine benevolence that is deep down inside each practitioner.
