To welcome the New York-based show to Atlanta, City Councilman, Clarence "CT" Martin, proclaimed August 21, 2010, as "Shen Yun Performing Arts Day."
Mr. Martin said he felt privileged to honor Shen Yun with the award, saying, "I'm excited about being here and having the opportunity to talk about these very talented dancers.
"The whole concept of coordination--light, sound, music, and dance--just brings us all together, in a different kind of way."
The councilman described Shen Yun as being "very spiritual, very energetic, very calm, and very meditative."
"All we needed to do was connect through the arts and through the culture ... to make for a happy evening ... an educational evening," he said.
Cobb County Commission Chairman Timothy D. Lee wrote, "On behalf of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, I extend our warmest greetings to all participants of the Shen Yun Performing Arts show, at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. We are honored to have such a culturally rich and artistic event in our community."
The Atlanta City Council welcomed the performing arts troupe with a proclamation stating, "The Shen Yun show displays the beauty, kindness, compassion, wisdom, and courage of the Chinese people."
Atlanta City Council President, Ceasar Mitchell, issued an official statement in which he described Shen Yun as "rich, relevant, and inspiring."
The mayors of Alpharetta, Decatur, Duluth, Kennesaw, and Marietta also honored Shen Yun.
Alpharetta mayor Arthur Letchas wrote, "We are thankful for the Southeastern US Falun Dafa Association's continued efforts" to bring the performance to Atlanta. He said the show was "phenomenal, a wonderful combination of the expressive and the technical."
Mayor William Floyd of Decatur wrote that he urged all citizens and community organizations to join him in extending honors and congratulations to Shen Yun.
Duluth mayor Nancy Harris, proclaimed August 21, 2010 as "Shen Yun Performance Day" and wrote, "the show is very rich in spirit, which gives people a real sense of goodness and meaning in life."
Mayor Mark Matthews of the City of Kennesaw, praised the "collaboration of leading artists, the world's foremost classically trained Chinese dancers, choreographers, musicians, and vocalists."
Mayor R. Steve Tumlin, Jr. of Marietta, encouraged all Georgians to see Shen Yun.
