(Clearwisdom.net) When the "Two Congresses" (the National Congress and the Political Consultative Conference) met in 2000, officials from my college set up secret detention cells in the college hostel and illegally placed me there under arrest because they were afraid that I would go to Beijing and appeal for Falun Gong. It was the second time I had been detained like that. The hall of the hostel was full of officials who had come because of me.
Speaking loudly so that others could hear, I asked the Party secretary of the college, "Why do you persecute Falun Gong? Is there anything bad about Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance? Why do you deprive me of my personal freedom?" The officials became so afraid that they quickly closed the door to prevent the guests outside from hearing me. The following day, all the guests were cleared out of the hostel, and since then no one has been allowed to get accomodations there.
Although many officials came to pressure me, I was not afraid, and loudly told them that they were human rights abusers. There was an elderly man on a sofa who kept silent. When we came to a deadlock, he said, "Well. Please get back, everyone. Leave me alone to talk with this teacher." Everyone did as he asked and left.
Only the elderly man and I were left alone in the room. I calmed down and realized that I shouldn't lose my temper and that I needed to adjust myself quickly.
The man said slowly, "Let me introduce myself first. I'm the deputy Party secretary of this college." He asked me, "How old are you?" Looking at me directly, he continued, "I'm two years older than you. Let's say, I'm the elder brother and you are the younger sister. Please hear me out that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) really is evil!"
My defensive attitude immediately died away and tears swam in my eyes. I didn't expect to hear this from such a highly-placed college official under these circumstances. When I look back on this now, I realize that Chinese people do want a change and that heaven will soon eliminate the CCP!
We talked for a long time. He told me about the tribulations that he encountered during the Cultural Revolution, as well as the tribulations that his family, relatives, and friends had endured. He had a nephew who was 12 years older than he. In the 1940s, his nephew went to Yanan City wishing to devote himself to the Communist regime's so-called revolution. The CCP gave him a warm welcome when he first arrived. At the same time, however, they secretly investigated him. One month later, the CCP decided that he was a spy from the Nationalist Party and shot him. Because of this, all of his family suffered "guilt by association" and experienced a lot of tribulations. In 1979, the CCP sent them a letter, with only the words "You are absolved."
I explained the facts about Falun Gong to him. He said that he understood me and respected my belief. "Falun Gong is different from those democracy organizations. Practitioners don't participate in politics at all. Falun Gong teaches people how to be good by following the principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." I told him, "I do need to let the Party secretary know what I told him just now. But I shouldn't have lost my temper. I will find a chance to make an apology to him in the future."
He said he considered me a staunch woman with moral integrity from the beginning, because he witnessed how I firmly believed in Dafa despite the intense pressure. After our chat, however, he was moved by my looking inward. He really admired Dafa disciples' courage and insight, and the sacred quality of forgiving others.
In order to keep the secret cells under watch at all times, the college set up a guard group of 14 people. Every day, two guards were on duty and performed a 24-hour watch.
Because I had good relationships with people around me before the persecution started and also because I behaved according to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance after practicing Falun Gong, after the persecution began, those who knew me understood and treated me well. I continued doing the exercises at night, and during the day I clarified the truth about Falun Gong to the guards who were sent to watch me. I also exposed the college leaders' evildoing, that they were taking public money to persecute Falun Gong.
There was a young teacher in my department who appealed in Beijing in January concerning a personal matter. She sent messages regarding the teaching arrangement to the staff when she was in the Shenyang Train Station. Hearing this, the college leaders at once took a car there, saying that they needed to arrest and stop her from going to appeal in Beijing. It took a long time to get there, and when they arrived at the station, the teacher, of course, had already left. The college leaders then drove to Huludao City to eat seafood. They also bought a lot of seafood and used it to bribe the leaders at different levels. Within just three days, they spent over 10,000 yuan. But they credited the money to Falun Gong. After hearing the facts, the guards said, "Everyone knows that the evil CCP doesn't do anything good at all."
After I was detained there, the head of the hostel came to see me on the second morning. He ordered the guards to leave my room. He began by introducing himself to me and told me that he hated the CCP. He shared the history of his family's tribulations. The CCP considered his father a rightist and held him in prison for decades. He asked me why the CCP persecuted me. I told him the truth about Falun Gong and how the regime had attempted to destroy practitioners and their spiritual beliefs by slandering them through the state media. He said that he thought whoever was being persecuted by the CCP must be good people, and therefore he firmly believed what I told him. During the entire time I was detained there, I could always feel his care. The chef often asked me what food I liked to eat, and the waiters there were also very friendly to me.
Among the 14 guards, everyone treated me well except one person. They often said, "We are not here to watch you. We only want to please you." They also did what they said. The table in my room was always full of groceries such as fruit, light refreshments, melon seeds and peanuts that they brought from their homes to treat me.
The hostel didn't provide lunch on the weekends, and my department secretary invited me to have lunch in a restaurant. Afterwards, I persuaded her to withdraw from the CCP and its affilicated organizations. She said, "I trust you. Help me quit the CCP!"
A female teacher from the evening staff moved me the most. I had rarely talked with her before. But when I was detained, she came to see me and brought me a ten-pound bag of fresh apples as a gift. When I persuaded people withdraw from the CCP, I also thought of her and helped her and her family quit the evil CCP and all its related organizations.
The Party secretary of the college came on the third morning. Looking at the ceiling, he said, "Wow! How nice it is here! I really could have a nice rest in such a quiet place." I immediately replied, "Secretary, I'm not the same as you. I have my dignity, and I'm eager for my freedom." This embarrassed him and he quickly left. He never came back to the hostel.
After the "Two Congresses," the leaders came back to inspect me. Seeing a lot of fruit, melon seeds, peanuts, and light refreshments on my table, they were too angry to even say one word. They told me to pack my bags and offered to take me home in their car. I told them, "I'm a capable woman. I have my own legs. I don't need your car."
Several years ago, there was a medical scandal that shocked the whole country. Thirteen people were placed on a punishment list, with the Party secretary of my college listed first, since he was the worst. He was fired first.
