(Clearwisdom.net) The New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts Company wowed audiences for two shows at the prestigious Bass Performance Hall, in Fort Worth, Texas, on August 4-5, 2010.
Ms. Barnes felt that Shen Yun brings hope to the Chinese people and a glimpse of what will come.
Among the delighted in the audience was nurse Katherine Barnes who thought Shen Yun was "very entertaining, it's very beautiful."
Being familiar with the Chinese Communist Party's despotic control of the masses, she said, "It's very tragic in China--that there's so many culture's beliefs that are clashing right now."
Many of Ms. Barnes' Chinese friends--some of whom she had grown up with-- told her that they were unable to return to their homeland because of the climate of oppression that exists there today.
She said, "You don't realize that you have freedom, here, to say things without the fear of retribution, and I think it's beautiful.
"In Fort Worth, in Arlington, we have a large Chinese population--a lot of people that I've gone to school with, and they tell me sad stories. They like their country here, but they miss home."
Ms. Barnes said that the the two dance sets portraying the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China today were both informative and tragic.
"Seeing that portrayed in these little vignettes is informative, and it puts a very nice light on something so tragic," she said.
Ms. Barnes felt that Shen Yun offered a ray of hope for the Chinese people and a glimpse into what could be. "It's challenging my perception of what China might be," she said.
There were many other aspects of Shen Yun that delighted Ms. Barnes including, "watching the young women dancing."
"But I love the orchestra, too. And the tenor, oh, he just--but the last woman, the alto! Oh, she's amazing!" she said.
"The Artistry Is Phenomenal"
Also in the audience was Barbara Foley, an airplane subcontractor, who thoroughly enjoyed the cultural aspect of Shen Yun.
"It's a cultural experience for me to see Chinese folk dancing. It's colorful. It's elegant. It's very pretty," she said.
Ms. Foley said that she enjoyed the various folk dances from different ethnic regions in China.
"I like to learn about different dances, like the Tibetan dance. It's very enjoyable. The fact that there are traditions from different areas of China. They're peaceful. I get the message of peace, especially when they show the Buddha."
"The artistry is phenomenal. The people are very, very professional. Very agile! ... It's just so flowing and beautifully done."
Ms. Foley concluded by saying that Shen Yun is, "Very beautiful, very elegant, very graceful."
