(Clearwisdom.net) At 9:00 a.m. on August 23, 2010, Ms. Chen Hongli was put on trial by officials from Qianxi County Court. Lawyer Zhang Chuanli from Beijing defended her innocence and demanded that the court release her. The trial started at 9:00 a.m. and ended at 11:00 a.m. Court officials stated that the case will be handed over to the collegiate bench for verification and agreement. Currently, Ms. Chen is still being incarcerated and mistreated.
Details of the abuse suffered by Ms. Chen Hongli
Ms. Chen Hongli, 38 years old, was a resident of Wu Village, Xingcheng Town, Xi County, Hebei Province. She started to practice Falun Gong in 1997. In the past eleven years, during which Falun Gong has been persecuted nationwide, she has been incarcerated six times. At the end of April 2010, officials from the 610 Office planned to persecute Falun Gong practitioners further under the pretense of security for the Shanghai World Expo. After the "propaganda summary" document, which describes their plans of persecution, was exposed on the Minghui website, various higher-levels of 610 Offices and police departments pressured the local Qianxi 610 Office and police stations to urgently find out who had exposed the information. The local authorities began to make arrests in response. On May 4, 2010, Chen Hongli was illegally arrested. After her house was ransacked, she was beaten and tortured by policemen. Although more than one hundred days had passed between the day of her arrest and the day of the trial, Chen Hongli's thigh was still covered with bruises. She had also been made to do forced labor during her detention.
Friends and relatives barred from attending the trial
At around 8:00 a.m. on August 23, armed police officers stood guard outside of the court. Liu Jingxing, a team member of the Domestic Security Division, led policemen Zhao Guoqi, Xu Zhigang, and others to guard the outside door. On the road outside, many police cars were parked and some police were taking video of the scene.
During the trial, policemen patrolled within 50 meters of the vicinity of the court. Policemen guarded the door and stopped Ms. Chen's friends and relatives, and other concerned citizens who knew about the case, from attending the trial. They checked their IDs, and Chen Hongli's daughter (a high school student) was barred from entering. They used the excuse that she did not possess an identification card.
Villagers take initiative to attend the trial
Before the trial, a few people from the village where Chen Hongli lived came to the court, prepared to attend the trial. But they were barred from entering on the basis that they did not have identification cards. One woman went home to get her ID and was then allowed to attend. She said, "I must see this for myself. Such a good person like her, what kind of crimes are they going to put her on trial for?" Before Ms. Chen started practicing Falun Gong, she frequently played mahjong with this villager. As time went by, they started to have tensions and thus ignored each other. After starting to practice, Ms. Chen went to her house and apologized to her, and asked for this villager's forgiveness. From then on, this villager observed Ms. Chen becoming a better and better person. She said with conviction, "Falun Gong is so miraculous and can change a person!"
