(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Wang Yuluan of Anping County, Hebei Province is seriously disabled. She was arrested in her home by officers from the Anping County Domestic Security Division on October 15, 2010 for practicing Falun Gong. In June 2011 she was sentenced to seven years in prison.
Ms. Wang is appealing the illegal sentence, and her family has been strongly advocating for her unconditional release.
Wang Yuluan is Disabled
Wang Yuluan is unable to bend her arms, which causes great difficulty in her daily life. Food needs to be placed on a flat plate so she can lean over and eat directly off the plate; baked goods need to be broken into tiny pieces. Because medication affects her teeth she finds it difficult to chew. Daily ablutions consist of rubbing her face on a wet towel, and a comb is tied to a long stick so she can comb her hair. Members of her family help her to get dressed. It is much more difficult to put on clothes in winter, and when she pulls up her pants, she has to use a long wooden stick to pull them up. It takes a great effort for her to use the toilet.
It is difficult to imagine how Wang Yuluan managed when she was jailed for more than 300 days and nights.
Mother and Daughter Arrested a Year Ago
At about 3 p.m. on October 15, 2010, police officers Sun Yihe and Wang Dan (female, over 20) of the Anping County Public Security Bureau, along with officers Yang Shushan, Wang Xinliang, and others from Hengshui, suddenly entered Wang Yuluan's home, searched the rooms, confiscated a printer and computer, and took nearly 10,000 yuan in cash. Wang Yuluan's daughter Wang Pei tried to stop them, but officer Yang Shushan held her on the ground, punched her in the face, and yelled at her.
After searching everywhere, the police found over 30,000 yuan cash and tried to take it away. Wang Yuluan said: “This money is is needed to purchase goods for our department store.” Sun Yihe hypocritically replied: “We are not here for money, we are just doing routine business.” After they took away Wang Yuluan and her daughter, the family noticed that the police even stole over 500 yuan from a coat pocket.
Unfettered Greed of the Police
This group of evildoers took Wang Pei and Wang Yuluan to the Anping County Public Security Bureau, for interrogation. Cui Qinglei, the Assistant Commissioner in charge of persecuting Falun Gong, requested 10,000 yuan to release the mother and daughter early.
On November 8, Sun Yihe repeatedly called Wang Pei's uncle and asked for 19,000 yuan. The uncle said: “You have already taken a lot of money yet you still ask for more, where can I get so much money? Is it OK to give you a lesser amount?” Sun Yihe said: “Why do you say they have no money? I saw tens of thousands of yuan.” The uncle replied: “They need that money to stock their store. How can they purchase goods if I give all of their money to you?” Sun Yihe didn't reply. Instead he yelled into the phone: “Bring the money tonight at the latest, or they won't be released.”
Wang Yuluan's family felt helpless and desperate, so they delivered the money to Sun Yihe that day. However, he only released Wang Pei, but not Wang Yuluan.
Judge Delays Appeal in Every Possible Way
On June 15, 2011, the Anping County Court secretly tried Wang Yuluan without providing any legal documents. Her family hired an attorney from Beijing to make inquiries at the court, but the judge would not allow the attorney to check any court records, and claimed that a Falun Gong practitioner's case is a “special case.”
On October 3, 2011, the court illegally sentenced Wang Yuluan to seven years in prison, asked her to sign the written judgement, but didn't leave her a copy, so she had no means to appeal the sentence.
On the afternoon of October 10, Wang Yuluan's family went to the courthouse and asked for a written copy of the judgement from judge Zhu Huiqing. Zhu deliberately avoided them to delay the appeal process.
Both the family and the attorney looked for judge Han Jinpeng, who said that the written judgment could not be given to the family. The attorney said: “The law explicitly states that the written judgement shall be given to a close relative. Han Jinpeng knew he was in the wrong, and changed his excuse by saying that he didn't know Wang Yuluan's husband, and refused to hand over the written judgement.
On the last day of the appeal period, judge Zhu Huiqing agreed to see the family and their attorney, but not until after 4 p.m. Finally after a strong request from the attorney, Zhu Huiqing accepted the notice of appeal.
On the morning of October 9, Wang Yuluan's daughter went to the court to get a copy of the written judgement. Han Jinpeng said that family members who didn't attend the hearing could not be given the written judgement. However, the court had not notified her family of the first trial, as it was a secret hearing. In the afternoon, Wang Yuluan's daughter again went to the court and requested the written judgement from Zhu Huiqing. Zhu responded by flying into a rage, and threatened to arrest her.
