(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Zhang Chuanduo, 44, was formerly a lieutenant in the Harbin City Fire Protection Department in Heilongjiang Province. He was fired from his job for not giving up the practice of Falun Gong, and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in 2003. He was brutally persecuted.
Fired for Persisting in His Faith
On New Year's eve 1999, Mr. Zhang was discharged from public duty and his military status was taken away, because he practiced Falun Gong. On November 30, 2000, he was {illegally arrested}} by officers from Nangang Police Station. He subsequently escaped and was forced to leave home for over two years to avoid illegal arrest. The Chinese Communist regime listed him as a wanted criminal. In the next three years, the police offered a reward of 30,000 yuan for capturing Falun Gong practitioners. Local police searched for Mr. Zhang in the homes of all his friends and family members.
Mr. Zhang was again illegally arrested by officer Wang from the Nangang Police Station in Harbin on May 19, 2003. During his detention at the Nangang Police Station, he was given only two bowls of porridge to eat each day. He was later sentenced to 15 years in Harbin No. 3 Prison.
Brutally Tortured in Prison
On March 18, 2004, Warden Zhang Jiushan from Harbin No. 3 Prison instigated criminals Guan Dejun, Liu Yanming, Jin Zhidong, and Li Dongqiang to torture practitioners Sun Dianbin, Li Chengyi, Zhang Yuliang, and Zhang Chuanduo. The practitioners were forced to sit on the side of a small folded stool, head against the wall, and the criminals beat them if they moved even slightly. They had to stay in this position and were only allowed to sleep for a few hours before getting up at 4:30 a.m. Upon waking up, they were again forced to stay in this position. In the mornings, they had to practice formations and were not allowed to rest. This mental and physical torture lasted for a week.
Torture re-enactment: Sitting on the side of a small folded stool. When the officials use this kind of torture, they fold the stool until it forms a kind of bar, then erect it on the ground. The practitioner is forced to sit on it (like riding a horse). It is only 2.5 to 3 centimeters (1 inch) wide, with bolts sticking out in the middle. It's very difficult for anyone to sit on it straight, but they force practitioners to sit straight, with their hands on their knees. Sometimes practitioners are ordered to pose, stretching their arms straight out in front of them or stretching their arms to either side like wings. The practitioners are ordered to sit straight and upright while criminals hover over them. They punch, curse, and kick practitioners whenever they move even a little. An average person couldn't endure even several minutes of this. The practitioners are forced to do slave labor or made to do drills in the daytime, and then forced to sit for six hours on the side of the small folded stools. Any practitioner moving even a little is severely beaten. (Reference: http://www.clearwisdom.net/html/articles/2010/11/7/121295.html)
Tortured by Criminals in Mudanjiang Prison
Six months later, without informing his family, Mr. Zhang was transferred to Mudanjiang Prison where he remains. He is forced to do slave labor daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The food in prison is bad, he does not have much time to eat, and he often goes hungry.
In 2009, in order to meet the quota set for "transforming" practitioners, the prison passed down orders to spare no effort in getting practitioners to give up Falun Gong. Practitioners were brutally beaten, shocked with electric batons, deprived of sleep for long periods of time, stripped naked and drenched with cold water, and even forced to stand outside when it was below -10°C (below 14°F) in attempts to coerce them into writing a guarantee statement renouncing Falun Gong. Family members were not allowed to visit them.
Just before October 30, No. 12 ward political head Hu Hanbing tried to force practitioners to write the guarantee statement. When practitioners refused, he threatened to give them a hard time. Hu instigated prison guards and criminals to “transform” all detained practitioners. According to one criminal, Hu even said that “any means” could be used as long as practitioners gave up the practice and so long as they were not beaten to death or crippled by the beatings.
On the afternoon of October 30, 2009, Hu Hanbing; team leaders Jiang Haitao, Xue Lei, and Bai Xiaogang; political head Wang Dawei; Zhai Shuyuan; staff member Qin Chengxiang; and criminals brought practitioners Zhang Chuanduo, Yu You, Jia Changmin, and Liu Qiliang back to the prison dormitory to be tortured while they were forced to do slave labor in the workshop.
Mr. Zhang Chuanduo was dragged into the dormitory washroom and beaten by criminals Li Feng, Chen Guijiang, Jie Wenge, Bai Chuangang, Wang Yuguang, Liu Gang, Liu Danfeng, and Bi Yuliang. They taped his mouth shut, stripped off his clothes, tied up his hands and legs, then hosed him down with cold water. They opened the windows and let the cold breeze in. At the time, it was below -10°C. Mr. Zhang's face was swollen beyond recognition and his body was covered with wounds. To cover up their crimes, the prison wouldn't allow his family to visit him for three months afterward.
The prison later rewarded the criminals who took part in persecuting Mr. Zhang. Criminal Chen Guijiang was given a merit point based on his record. Guard Hu Hanbing was promoted to the secretary of prison office.
