(Clearwisdom.net) On January 23, 2001, the eve of the Chinese New Year, an occurrence that shocked the world was staged in China's Tiananmen Square in Beijing. What happened appeared to be, and was widely promoted by China's state-run media, as a self-immolation in which several people, allegedly Falun Gong practitioners, set themselves on fire. In fact, the event was a pure propaganda stunt staged by China's Communist Party to turn public opinion against Falun Gong.

Mr. Gu Huaibing was sentenced to seven years in prison; Mr. Zhou Yaping, two years and four months; Mr. Liao Jianfu, two and a half years; Mr. Zhao Haiping, Mr. Wang Hongbo, Mr. Wang Jianguo, and Ms. Li Xiaoyan were sentenced to three years in prison. (Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Qin Mingyue from the Jinshantun District, Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province, died in Jiamusi Prison as a result of torture on February 26, 2011. His family sued Jiamusi Prison officials and sought compensation.
