(Minghui.org) At Farm No. 10 of Lianjiangkou Farm, there was a man known as “the Man with Great Kindness,” who was highly regarded by the locals. His actual name was Mr. Li Yanhong. Should you mention his name, those who knew him will tell you all about him: he practiced Falun Gong and was the kindest person on their farm. Those who interacted with him knew that Mr. Li always put others before himself and never took advantage of anyone. If a family within their farm community was in need, Mr. Li would help them out.
In the No. 10 Farm community, every household has a share of land. Before each planting season, the irrigation of the rice paddies is precisely coordinated. Yet every household is eager to have its own rice paddy irrigated first. Only Mr. Li Yanhong let others have their turn first and never argued with anyone about it. Mr. Li's rice paddy was always the last one to get irrigated. Such examples about Mr. Li are many.
Despite this, Mr. Li was repeatedly harassed and threatened by the Lianjiangkou Police Department, and was twice sent to a forced labor camp. He was detained and locked in a small cell, and the officers extorted money from him and illegally videotaped him. Mr. Li was fired from his job, and his retirement benefits and pay were taken away. As a result, Mr. Li Yanhong suffered tremendous psychological pressure and was also under great physical stress. On June 16, 2012, he suddenly collapsed at home and passed away three months later on September 18.
Becoming healthy in body and mind through practicing Falun Gong
Mr. Li Yanhong was 58 years old. In his youth, he was sent to the countryside during the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) “To the Countryside” movement, “to be reeducated by the poor and lower-class peasants.” Mr. Li was sent to study at the E-Cheng School of Agriculture because of his outstanding character and dedication. After graduation, he settled down at Farm No. 10 of Lianjiangkou Farm. He was a staff member at the Rice Growing Research Institute and had strong technical knowledge. He was kind and honest and liked to help others. His rice not only tasted better than that of other growers, but was also cheaper.
Prior to practicing Falun Gong, Mr. Li had health problems related to his liver, gall bladder, and heart. He also had diabetes and hemorrhagic fever. He did not have money for medical treatment and had a young child at home—those days were bitter for him and his family. In March 1998, Mr. Li had a high fever that would not go down. He was only 44 years old and was frantic with worry. Then, his friend brought a copy of Zhuan Falun to him. Mr. Li finished reading it in one night and couldn’t put it down after that. He started to learn the Falun Gong exercises and was able to ride his bike five days later. After a month, he went back to work.
After he started practicing Falun Gong, Mr. Li was always in good health and never had to take medication again. He strictly held himself to the standard of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, the principles of Falun Dafa.
Once, when a neighbor of Mr. Li's was experiencing financial hardship, he went to the neighbor and offered to lend him money. His neighbor was extremely grateful and promised to pay back the money with interest. When his neighbor came to return the borrowed money and the interest, Mr. Li would only take the amount he had lent his neighbor and refused to take any interest. His neighbor then came back with a gift, which Mr. Li also kindly refused.
Persecuted for years for persisting in his belief
The CCP started to persecute Falun Gong in July 1999. Like tens of millions of other practitioners, because he would not give up his belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, Mr. Li suffered years of persecution. The CCP took away his basic right to earn a living. He was also arrested multiple times and treated brutally in detention.
The first time he was arrested was in the late fall of 1999. Officers from the Lianjiangkou Police Department ransacked his home and took him to the Lianjiangkou Police Department, where he was shocked with electric batons and locked up in a small cell. He was detained for about 12 days and had more than 1,000 yuan extorted from him. He was not released until his family paid the police.
The second arrest happened in the spring of 2000 when someone brought false charges against Mr. Li. Zhang Dawei, from the Political and Legal Affairs Committee of the Yanjiangkou Farm Police Department, went with police to Mr. Li's home with a video camera. They attempted to get Mr. Li to slander Master and Dafa so that they could videotape him. They threatened that he would not get his pension if he did not comply. Mr. Li refused. Not getting what they wanted, the Lianjiangkou Police Department terminated Mr. Li's employment and took away the pension he was entitled to receive. In addition, they took Mr. Li to the Lianjiangkou Police Department and locked him in a small cell for a month, then secretly sent him to Jiashixigemu Forced Labor Camp to serve a one-year sentence. Mr. Li's family was not notified that he had been sent to a labor camp. Meanwhile, the police department sent officers Ma Ji and Dan Yongwei to demand that his wife pay 600 yuan in “living expenses” for him. She did not know that they were lying and was under the impression that Mr. Li would be released if she paid them. The officers deceived Mr. Li's family and took 600 yuan from them but did not release Mr. Li. After one year of persecution at the labor camp, Mr. Li was finally released.
The third arrest happened in 2005. Mr. Li was again falsely charged while he was at the Seed Field at Lianjiangkou Farm. Seed Field Police Department officers went to Mr. Li's home and found Falun Gong related materials. Mr. Li was sent to a labor camp again, where his blood pressure went up to 280 mmHg. His family was extremely worried. Mr. Li was released, but only after his family spent 2,000 yuan on bribes. After he returned home, the police department asked for another 3,000 yuan for a “recognizance fee.” Mr. Li's family gave the money to police officers Ma Ji and Liu Zhi. After Mr. Li passed away, his family asked Liu Zhi for the money back. Liu Zhi denied taking any money.
Mr. Li Yanhong was a government employee. Due to his belief, he was fired by Zhang Dawei, chairman of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee of the police department. In addition, Mr. Li's salary, health care, and other benefits were all taken away from him. Although funeral fees are paid by the employer in Mainland China if the deceased was a government employee, Mr. Li's family received no such benefit. They were given only 180 yuan upon his death.
