(Minghui.org) Ms. Gan Liping started practicing Falun Gong in May 2009. After graduating from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Beijing Institute of Technology, she entered the Master's degree program in psychology. She also began work as a community worker for the Enjili Community of Beijing in April 2009, and often spoke about Falun Gong to people that she met at her workplace. Ms. Gan was arrested on January 25, 2011 because she practiced Falun Gong. She was sentenced to two years of forced labor, and is currently detained in the Third Team of Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp.
Ms. Gan was held on the third floor at the camp, which is normally left empty. But as more practitioners were detained there, they ran out of cell space, and Ms. Gan was moved to the tenth room on the third floor. She was routinely cursed at and beaten by inmates who were assigned to monitor her. She sometimes rushed out of her cell shouting that the inmates were beating her. Other detained practitioners demanded that the inmates be punished, but the camp authorities just ignored them, and even escalated the persecution of practitioners who asked for punishment of those responsible for the beatings. These practitioners were given a greater workload and were restricted from daily use of the toilet, as well as access to drinking and washing water.
Fan Huiyu, the main guard at the camp, is most active in the torture of Ms. Gan. She is known for using harsh and abusive language and taking pleasure in torturing others. She was trained and promoted by Li Shoufen, a former guard in the Seventh Team. Another person involved in the torture of practitioners is Wang Huixia, 50. The inmates who beat Ms. Gan include Li Xiaofang, 23, and Zeng Xianju, who is around 45 years old.
As drugs are frequently mixed into the practitioners' food, Ms. Gan suspected that her food had been tampered with, so she refused to eat it. Another practitioner, Ms. Zhang Xiuying, detained in the ninth group, once said that her food tasted bitter, most likely because drugs had been mixed into it.
Deputy team leader Yang once said, “The labor camp is here just to detain Falun Gong practitioners.” The performance evaluation and promotion criteria for labor camp staff are based on their involvement in persecuting practitioners. Inmates in the camp are ordered by the camp authorities to torture practitioners, and are judged and evaluated based on how actively they follow the guards' orders in the persecution of practitioners.
Guards in the third team:
Bai Lianna (team leader), Zhao Bo (34, deputy team leader and graduate of the China Police University), Zhao (deputy team leader), Lu Fengying (deputy team leader, resident of Xuanwu District of Beijing, in charge of forced labor), Zhang Xiaoshuang, Zhou Jia (later transferred to the security team), Zhao Xiaojing, Li Min, He Jiao, Wang Huixia, Fan Huiyu, Wu Bin, Tang Mingming (from Guilin City), Chi Guanguan, Chen Xi (around 36 years old, from Sichuan Province and graduate of the Law Department at the Central University of Nationalities).
