(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Wang Jinfan, a school teacher from Railroad Middle School in Qiquhaer City, Heilongjiang Province, and Ms. Guan Suming, from Yichun City, have been abused and tortured at the Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison. They are currently in critical condition.
Ms. Wang Jinfan in Critical Condition
On March 5, 2012, at around 3:00 p.m., Ms. Wang Jinfan, who was detained in the Second Supervision Unit, refused to go to the Ninth Supervision Unit for “transformation.” As a result, Wang Shanshan ordered prisoners to forcibly take her there using a bed sheet. Ms. Wang tried to resist and shouted, “Falun Dafa is good!” To quiet her, Wang Shanshan told more prisoners, headed by Wang Xuehu, to tie up her hands and tape her mouth. Ms. Wang Jinfan was made to twist inside the sheet, causing her indescribable pain.
Ms. Wang Jinfan, 59, is a former middle-school teacher in Qiqihar. She has spent almost 13 years of her life in prison since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began persecuting Falun Gong practitioners in 1999. She has been detained at Heilongjiang Province Woman's Prison for over ten years and has been subjected to all kinds of abuse, causing her to become very feeble. She is now not even able to put on her own clothes. She also has very high blood pressure.
On March 5, 2012, prison guards from the Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison forcibly brought steadfast practitioners to the Ninth Supervision Unit for continued abuse. These practitioners were scheduled to be released in a month, but were still taken to the unit. This unit is known as the “transformation” unit.
Fifty year-old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Liwen was sentenced to ten years in prison and detained in the Third Supervision Unit. Prison guards had tortured Ms. Wang Liwen the same way they did Ms. Wang Jinfan. Wang Shanshan, captain of the Ninth Supervision Unit, ordered four inmates to take Ms. Wang Liwen to the Ninth Supervision Unit for “forced transformation” (even though her prison term had expired). In 2011, Ms. Wang Liwen was diagnosed with heart and brain problems by a hospital outside the prison. According to prison rules and regulations, Ms. Wang's health condition qualified her for medical parole. Despite her poor health, Wang Shanshan continued relentlessly persecuting Mr. Wang Jinfan.
Ms. Li Peixian from Qiqihar City, who is in her fifties, was detained in the Tenth Supervision Unit. Several months ago, Ms. Li was taken home on medical parole due to a tumor found in her stomach. However, she was returned to the prison shortly after that and is again being held in the Tenth Supervision Unit. She has since been on a hunger strike.
Ms. Guan Suming in Critical Condition
Ms. Guan Suming, a Falun Gong practitioner from Yichun City, was arrested in Beijing on September 5, 2009. On September 20, 2010, after being tortured at Fengtai Detention Center in Beijing for over a year, she was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment by the District Court of Fengtai, and was transferred to Tianhe Prison in Daxing County. While in prison, Ms. Guan refused to wear the prison uniform and insisted on practicing the Falun Gong exercises. As a result, she was brutally beaten to the point of losing consciousness. She was transferred to Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison on June 26, 2011, where she was met with more abuse.
On the morning of March 12, 2012, Ms. Guan's family received a phone call from Lin Jia, deputy captain of the Seventh Supervision Unit at Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison, who said, “Guan Suming's life is in danger. You must come to see her now.” Ms. Guan's family went to see her the next morning. She was bed-ridden and couldn't walk. Ms. Guan's family immediately requested that the prison authorities give her medical treatment. They agreed, and asked her family to convince her to have a physical examination.
Ms. Guan's family phoned the prison again on the morning of March 27. Lin Jia told them that after Ms. Guan Suming went for the exam, she was diagnosed with coronary heart disease, hypertension, and nervous tics. Lin said that these conditions were life threatening, and that Ms. Guan had to be admitted to a provincial hospital for further treatment. She also said that if Ms. Guan met the "standard" for medical parole, that the prison authorities would grant parole immediately.
Prison Warden Bai Yingxian Can't Escape His Responsibility
Since Bai Yingxian, director of Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison, assumed her position in 2010, she has actively participated in the persecution and “transformation” of Falun Gong practitioners. In 2011, she coerced steadfast practitioners to wear prison uniforms daily. She went to all the supervision units personally to ensure that her order was being followed, resulting in a worsening degree of harassment toward practitioners.
In February 2012, Zhao Xiaofan, captain of the Fourth Supervision Unit, along with inmates Ma Guirong, Sun Chao, Shang Xiaoyan, Lu Ying, Zhong Weizhi, and Jiang Chunying, organized a so-called “dressing group,” in which practitioners were forced to wear prison uniforms. On February 22-29, practitioners were selected to be beaten by prisoners and forced to wear prison uniforms. The beatings were very vicious. The practitioners were struck with broomsticks and slippers. Their hair was pulled and their heads slammed against the wall. The inmates bent practitioners' fingers to break them, and they punched and kicked them. Practitioner Wang Jianhui was the most severely abused. Bruises and swollen areas appeared all over his body. Police officers Chen Liping and Li Jingjing were present when Wang Jianhui was being beaten. Chen and Li ignored Wang as he called out for help.
Falun Gong practitioner Yan Chunling was detained in the Second Supervision Unit in March 2011, and locked up in a confinement cell. In November 2011, one of the practitioners was selected from each supervision unit and placed in solitary confinement. Four or five prisoners monitored them and tried to “transform” them in every way possible.
Many practitioners detained at Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison have been severely abused, and some have become disabled or have even died. Using prison “term reductions” as incentives, prison authorities instigated prisoners into beating and torturing practitioners at will, which included stripping off their clothes in the winter, pouring cold water over their bodies, using fans to blow cold air onto their bodies, jabbing them with needles, injecting them with unknown drugs, shocking them with electric batons, hanging them by their handcuffs, depriving them of sleep, and forcing them to stand and squat for a long periods of time.
Prisoners have even put unknown drugs into practitioners' food, locked them up in confinement cells, hung them upside down, handcuffed their hands behind their backs, pinched their eyelids with toothpicks, slapped their faces with plastic rulers, deprived them the right to use the bathroom, forced them to read Chinese Communist Party indoctrination, force-fed them, verbally abused them, and coerced them into writing a “guarantee statement” promising to give up the practice, among other things. On January 14, 2012, Zhao Bixu, a practitioner from 854 Farm in Hulin City, died due to this persecution.
