1. Helping Students Understand Falun Gong
I am a veteran Falun Dafa practitioner and stepped into the practice in 1996. After gaining the Fa I decided to follow Teacher's principles Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, so I could be a good teacher. Teacher said,
“This is not the enlightenment that we refer to. Rather, it is what this person calls 'foolish' in terms of self-interest, and that is the enlightenment we have talked about. Of course, such a person is not really foolish. We simply treat the issue of personal, vested interests with indifference, while in other areas we are very wise. In terms of conducting scientific research projects or carrying out assignments from our supervisors or other duties, we are very clear-minded and perform them very well.” (Zhuan Falun)
Over the years, I have used the Fa as my standard and tried to be a good teacher. I was conscientious about my work and completed all my tasks, no matter how difficult. Beginning in 1996, I won three awards at the national level, two at the provincial level, four at the city level, and three at the county level. I was also assigned to research projects at the national and provincial levels. At a national competition, the provincial team I represented achieved very good results. After the competition, a senior expert and the head of our province said, "Thank you for being instrumental in winning the honor for our province."
Many teachers that sat in on my class said afterwards that they didn't know why they were always in tears when they listened to these students. At the beginning of each new school year, the class teacher told the students how lucky they were to have me as a teacher. Senior students told lower grade students about me. Everyone hoped I would be his or her teacher. All this laid a foundation for me to clarify the truth about Falun Gong to my students.
Seeing is believing. When I was in front of my students, with them day and night, my status and xinxing would affect the results of my truth-clarification. At the very beginning, I remembered that Teacher said,
“Cultivation depends on one’s own efforts, while the transformation of gong is done by one’s master. ” (Zhuan Falun)
Therefore, as long as I was open and forthright, everything would be fine. My up-front behavior allowed the students to make their own, informed decisions and withdraw from the Youth League and the Young Pioneers, as well as have a correct understanding about Falun Gong.
I did take some missteps. If I was remiss in my presentation about the beauty of Falun Dafa, as well as its dignity and compassion, the result when clarifying the truth would not good. At those times, a few students would say something bad about Falun Dafa. I was not intolerant when faced with these students. I admitted that I had made a mistake, didn't have enough compassion, and failed to speak clearly. I suggested that, because of the predestined relationship between teacher and students, one needed to be more specific when communicating. Finally, all the students understood the facts about Falun Gong.
If my head was filled with too many bad notions, some students would look at me in disbelief when I clarified the truth about Falun Gong to them. At those times, the students didn't withdraw from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the Youth League, or Young Pioneers.
When I talked about Falun Gong and had to deal with their choices, I didn't have any attachment to self-satisfaction and would always be grateful for Teacher's merciful salvation. When faced with students that didn't believe, I would study the Fa with a calm mind, look inward, and ask Teacher for his support. When I elevated on my cultivation path, students that didn't believe in Falun Dafa made a total turn-about and believed what I told them. The students that already had a good understanding of Falun Dafa became even clearer in their minds.
2. Students Make the Correct Choice
One evening in May, 2011, I taught math, English, Chinese, physics and the character "king." When I saw the character "king," I wondered why I had been called upon to teach that particular character. I knew it was Teacher who asked me to continue to clarify the truth about Falun Gong. I was certain that all of us had a predestined relationship with this "King."
I had taught these students for nearly a year, had talked to them a lot about Falun Gong, and they knew that Falun Dafa was good. Since I was fearful, I dared not ask the students to withdraw from the CCP's Youth League and Young Pioneers.
Looking at the character "king," I knew that Teacher was beside me, so I didn't beat about the bush. I explained why the Party flag was red, that the Party was deceitful, the fact that the Party promoted atheism, and that it promoted and thrived on conflict. Being a particle of the Party, one must be ready to sacrifice his/her life at any time. I asked the students to learn from Yue Fei, who repaid the country with supreme loyalty. I made them understand that the Party did not represent the Chinese nation, spoke of the preciousness of life, and what they had to do to survive calamity. I used positive historical lessons, such as the choice made by the descendants of Yan Di and Huang Di, who always had belief in the existence of God. In contrast I explained that being a particle of the Party that did not believe in God would mean destruction, and that being part of the Party they had no choice about their own lives.
The students were smiling and there was an atmosphere of happiness during the entire evening. I could understand their smiles—they were the smiles of lives that had been saved. After that I asked the students of another class to make the same choice. All students, except one who wanted to think about it, withdrew from the Youth League and the Young Pioneers. They all fully accepted that by repeating "Falun Dafa is good" and "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good," they would be protected when calamity ensues.
At the beginning of the 2011 school year, I knew that it was urgent to save sentient beings and I did my best to help my students. As a result, within a month and a half, more than 100 students agreed to withdraw from the Youth League and the Young Pioneers, while only three students didn't withdraw. But I am sure these three students will make the right choice eventually. To assure that those students are saved, I must look inward and elevate myself.
3. Corresponding with Students
In July 2011, I bid farewell to the graduating class. The students left the following messages: "Dear and respected Teacher, thank you for all you taught us during the last year ... We will remember the nine characters, 'Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good,' and wish you happiness. – From all of your students." The class monitor wrote in a letter: "I was happy to have you as my teacher. Teacher, I will remember 'Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.' Please don't forget to fulfill the promise you and I have made!"
4. Positive Changes in My Students
In 2011, there were a lot of courses in which the students had to do experiments. After finishing the experiment, the students would clean the classroom without being asked. When I praised some students that generally were on the naughty side, they said with a smile that they remembered Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and were trying to be good people. When I was about to get angry, students reminded me of the Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and I immediately apologized and praised their sincerity.
In November 2011, I put some truth-clarification materials on the teacher's desk and was about to start class. Suddenly the lowest ranked student approached my desk and quickly covered the materials with a book before returning to his own desk. When I turned around, I saw the class teacher walk in. This child was protecting me. I was very moved, praised his compassion, and explained the principle of wealth with virtue.
At one of the evening study hall sessions, the string holding the Falun Dafa amulets (1) was tangled and very difficult to untangle. I knew that I had to teach first, so I said that I would give them the amulets later. The students were all very anxious. One of the male students spent nearly two hours untangling it. I told him, "You may choose the two you like." He said he didn't want them. I was a bit surprised and asked, "Don't you like it?" He said, "Yes, but my marks are not high enough. Wait until my marks reach the standard and then I will ask for it." The other students and I were very moved.
There was a student with very noticeable deformities. At the beginning I talked with him about the facts of Falun Gong, and he accepted them very well, becoming very devout. After I read verses from the book Hong Yin III in class, he smiled at me every time he saw me. I asked him, "Why are you so happy?" He said, "Teacher, now I know where I came from and why I was born this way. I don't feel sad anymore!"
5. Teacher's Encouragement through Miracles
One evening I was on duty for Class A's study hall. During the first period, students all quietly did their homework. Suddenly I saw a female student bend over in pain. I hurried to help her and asked her to repeat, "Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!" I explained that this would relieve her pain. I had taken over the class just recently, so I had not talked to them about the nine characters "Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!" The student asked how many times she should repeat the words. I answered, "Hurry up. I will also say them." Just about a minute later the student smiled and said, "The pain's gone!" Then she said, “Teacher, isn't this a miracle? Thank you, teacher!" I said with a smile, "Thank you, Falun Dafa's Teacher!" Then she told me she had suffered stomach cramps for several years and it was very painful. She took a lot of medicine. I told her, "If you continue to recite the words, you will recover.”
I told her that Falun Dafa does not ask anyone for repayment. One only needs to talk about the miracles to one's family, relatives, and students. She agreed. After class I saw her talk to her classmates. I was really moved. I knew it was Teacher who was encouraging me. I also felt ashamed, because I had hesitated to clarify the facts about Falun Dafa during the first period.
In the second period, I clarified the truth about Falun Dafa to the class and asked the students who agreed to withdraw from the Youth League and the Young Pioneers to write their choice on their paper and hand it to me. Those who did not wish to withdraw didn't need to write their names on the paper, simply hand in the blank paper. To protect the students, I asked them to fold the paper before handing it in. Only 13 out of more than 40 students refused to withdraw from the CCP and its affiliated organizations. Later, after clarifying the truth further, more students agreed to withdraw. The female student I helped wrote on her paper, "Teacher, the miracle that I experienced tonight helped me to firmly believe what you told us. I'm grateful to Falun Dafa's Teacher and I quit the Young Pioneers and the Youth League.”
On another evening, I was assigned to Class B students for the evening study hall. During the first period I thoroughly clarified the truth to the entire class. Most students withdrew from the Youth League and Young Pioneers, just as in Class A. The difference was that after I had spoken to the class, a female student vomited and had diarrhea. She wanted her mother to bring some medicine, but her home was very far away and it was very late in the evening. The student was very anxious and in a lot of pain, and her mother was very worried after hearing the news. I said to the student, "Don't worry. Just recite, 'Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!' It will relieve your pain." She began to say these words and gradually her pain disappeared. She said with a forced smile, "No more stomachache, but now I have a toothache." I said, "Continue to recite and your toothache will go away." She was very pleased.
I asked her, "Do you believe what I just said and do you agree to withdraw?" She replied that she had not withdrawn. I said, "Do you believe me now?" She said, "Yes, I believe, and I also want to withdraw from the Youth League and the Young Pioneers." I said, "Tell your mother that you are all right now and ask her not to worry. Explain to her how your pain disappeared.”
Teacher allowed for miracles to be experienced in these two classes. It was not only an encouragement for me, but also a Buddha’s infinite grace for the students. Teacher let them witness the supernormal powers of Dafa.
Another time, a graduate student that had been ill for many years regained his health within five days after repeating "Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good." He said, "Let me see what Teacher looks like. I want to remember his image."
Thank you, Teacher, for your merciful salvation! I'm sending this paper from China, thousands of miles away. I want to thank Teacher on behalf of the students! Teacher, practitioners on the mainland miss you.
Students often asked me, "Teacher, why are you so happy? Your smile is different from others' because your smile is from your heart. Why are your lectures so good? Why is your family rich? Why do you never give students who are not doing well the cold shoulder?” There are always “whys.” Every time I reply with a smile, "This is because your teacher is a practitioner. If you want to know why, read the book Zhuan Falun."
Note: (1) Amulets – In China, practitioners sometimes clarify the truth by giving people something small to wear or cherish, bearing a few words reminding them of the goodness of Dafa.
