(Minghui.org) National Security officials arrested 52-year-old Ms. Ge Xiaotian of Haitang Village in the Petroleum Cooperation in the Jinshan District of Shanghai City as she was clarifying the truth about Falun Gong in a residential area in the Petroleum Cooperation. Her residence was ransacked and Falun Gong books and materials were confiscated.
Later her family was notified that Ms. Ge was detained. There has been no further information.
According to the “Code of Criminal Procedure,” the maximum length of detention on criminal charges is 14 days under normal circumstances. For major suspects who commit crimes repeatedly and gang crimes, the maximum length of detention is 37 days. It has now been over four months, and Ms. Ge’s family have not been informed of her whereabouts or provided with any written documentation of her arrest.
When her family called repeatedly to inquire about Ms. Ge's whereabouts, Lu, the National Security official in charge, told her family that Ms. Ge had been sentenced to one and a half years of forced labor.
In Article XII, Chapter Three “Asylum Approval” of the provisions of the Public Security Handling of Reeducation-Through-Labor Cases it states: “For those in need of re-education through labor, the organizer must ascertain the facts and solicit the views of the individual's work unit or neighborhood organizations; Examination and approval of the report goes to the Reeducation-Through-Labor Management Committee. Then the decision will be made. Also, the individual and family must be considered in the decision and the length of labor re-education. The person to be re-educated through labor needs to sign the 'Reeducation-Through-Labor' assignment.”
When her family called to ask why they hadn’t received any written notice regarding Ms. Ge’s whereabouts, National Security officer Lu answered that he didn’t know anything about it. When he was asked who was in charge of Ms. Ge's case, Lu still answered that he knew nothing about it.
When Ms. Ge’s family informed them that they were going to expose this online, Cao from the 610 Office showed up and promised to allow the family to visit Ms. Ge. Her family kept asking for a document, and Cao finally told them that the notification document had not been approved yet. However, Ms. Ge had already been detained for over four months.
Ms. Ge benefitted both physically and mentally and became a nicer person after she started to practice Falun Gong in May of 1998. On November 17, 2000, she was arrested for hanging a Falun Dafa banner and was sentenced to three years in prison, but the sentence was suspended for three years. In 2001, Ms. Ge found out that she was pregnant during her five-and-half-month detention in the detention center. The hospital refused to perform an abortion due to the size of the fetus, and she was released to give birth to her son.
On August 17, 2004, Ms. Ge was arrested again. She was detained for 15 days and then sent to prison until March 8, 2007. She was arrested again on June 17, 2008 when she was talking to people about Falun Gong, and was sentenced to one year of forced labor. She was arrested again when she was distributing truth-clarification materials on February 4, 2010, and was sentenced to one year and six months of forced labor.
When Ms. Ge was displaying a truth-clarification banner to tell people about Dafa, she just wanted people to see that Falun Gong is not as portrayed on TV; that it is an upright practice and a true Buddha Fa cultivation method. However, she has been persecuted multiple times. Her son has been separated from his mother for more than half his life.
