(Minghui.org) Mr. Wang Fucheng went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in 1999, and was detained for a month. He was then forced to pay 5,000 yuan to the Mengyin Township government officials. His home has been searched many times by the township government officials and they threatened to arrest him, forcing him to leave his home to avoid persecution. He didn't return for two years.
Mr. Wang was arrested at the beginning of 2004, and was beaten and shocked with electric batons by officers from the Chapeng Police Station and the 610 Office. As a result of the torture, he was taken to Mengyin County Hospital for emergency treatment. While in detention Mr. Wang was sentenced to 12 years in prison by officials at the Mengyin County Court, and was taken to the Shandong Province No. 1 Prison on July 20, 2004. He is currently illegally detained on the fifth floor of Ward No. 11.
Mr. Wang was taken to the “newcomer” division when he arrived at the prison, where he was subjected to physical and mental torture. Falun Gong practitioners newly arriving at the prison are constantly threatened and bullied by the guards and criminal inmates in an attempt to get them to renounce their belief. Practitioners who agreed to stop practicing Falun Gong are then forced to sign a guarantee statement and then put their thumbprint and photo on the statement.
In the summer of 2006, eight to nine practitioners detained in Ward No. 8, including Mr. Wang, Mr. Yang Shuming, Mr. Zhao Chuanwen, Mr. Xu Jinde, Mr. Shen Xijia and Mr. Shi Zengshan, made an announcement that they would start practicing Falun Gong again. Two of them were taken to the “newcomer” division again, but Mr. Wang, Mr. Zhao and Mr. Yang were taken to the “strict control” room and tortured.
Mr. Wang, Mr. Lu Zhen and Mr. Shi Zenglai were caught by the guards passing Falun Dafa articles to each other in February 2009, and were put in solitary confinement. They were tortured by the prison guards of Ward No. 11. They were forced to sit on a small stool for long periods of time, with their knees against the wall. Sometimes the guards would shine a bright light into their eyes. During this period, Mr. Wang was tortured using a method called “stew the eagle,” where he was subjected to sleep deprivation for long periods of time, to wear down his will and force him to give up his belief.
On April 11, 2009, in Team No. 10 of Ward No. 11, Mr. Zhao Weidong exchanged a few words with a new inmate, which upset criminal inmate Su Lei, the team leader for the cell. The two inmates later got into an argument. At the time, Mr. Zhang Chuanzheng was standing nearby. Su Lei ordered Mr. Zhang to squat down, but he refused. Mr. Wang asked loudly, “Are you going to beat him up, or what?” Then more than a dozen inmates rushed to Mr. Zhang and took turns beating him, Mr. Zhao from Taian and Mr. Wang from Mengyin. During the 2012 Chinese New Year, Mr. Wang and Mr. Gong Maohai from Mengyin were severely tortured.
Mr. Wang is now detained on the fifth floor of Ward No. 11. Ward No. 11 is located in a separate building within its own compound. The second floor of the building is equipped with modern conference facilities, where practitioners are forced to watch so-called “patriotic educational films” every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. They then have to undergo “expose and criticize” sessions, where practitioners are escorted to the podium and are forced to speak about their thoughts and understandings of the “educational films,” plead guilty to acting and behaving outside of expectations, and express a willingness to renounce their belief in Falun Gong. Those who actively resist the persecution and don't renounce their belief are severely beaten and tortured. The abuse that they suffer includes being punched and kicked, beaten with sticks, burned with cigarette lighters, stabbed with needles, having hot pepper smeared on their genitals, being shackled, deprived of sleep and verbally abused.
Guards at the prison have been using criminal inmates to coerce Falun Gong practitioners into renouncing their belief through violence and torture since 2002. Eleven practitioners are known to have died as a result of the persecution. Officials at the prison have told others that if a Falun Gong practitioner does not renounce their belief, nobody will be held responsible if they are killed and it will be considered as “death by natural causes.” The prison guards induce criminal inmates to participate in torturing practitioners by giving them points that count towards receiving privileges or reduced prison terms. The use of violence and torture against practitioners has escalated at the prison since 2012.
