(Minghui.org) Police officers led by Zhang Ruibao arrested Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Jie on October 29, 2012 at his home in Haidian District, Beijing. Mr. Zhang's family was notified by authorities of his two-year forced labor sentence; he was charged with possession of Falun Gong books and media.
Mr. Zhang is currently being held at the Haidian Detention Center. On December 12, his family called the detention center to inquire about his condition. Officer Li Jie informed the family that Mr. Zhang had injured his feet, and that his wounds had become infected. Additionally, he'd developed high blood sugar levels. The family was surprised at this news and questioned Li, since Mr. Zhang was in excellent health from practicing Falun Gong. They wanted an explanation of how he could have such problems after being at the detention center for just over a month. Officer Li claimed that the injuries were due to Mr. Zhang's “bad mood”.
The next day, family members called the detention center again, asking for details about Mr. Zhang's injuries; an officer announced that his injuries had healed. The family asked how they were cured, but the officer replied that this was a medical issue, so he wasn't able to explain.
Mr. Zhang was quite famous as a young calligrapher in Beijing. His work was chosen for inclusion in the Chinese Calligraphy Yearbook. He has benefited physically and mentally from his Falun Gong practice.
