(Minghui.org) On March 20, 2013, many people came to the Fengcheng City courthouse early in the morning to watch the trial of Liu Chengjun, a Falun Gong practitioner. An elderly woman in her 70’s told people around her with tears in her eyes: “We came first thing in the morning by taxi. Chengjun’s family have been good neighbors for decades. This young man is a good person, who has taken care of his mom for years. The Communist Party arrests many good people while leaving corrupt officials alone.”
Mr. Liu Chengjun is a small business owner, who lives on the east side of Fengcheng City, near Gas Station 241. He is a diligent Falun Gong practitioner. Mr. Liu was arrested for his belief on September 28, 2012, and was tried in court on March 20, 2013.
Lawyers' Strong Defense Leaves Judge Speechless
Two lawyers gave a strong defense and argued that Mr. Liu’s “crimes” could not be established. The lawyers told the judge to make a correct decision based on his own conscience and moral principles. They asked the judge to restore Mr. Liu’s reputation and release him unconditionally.
The court hearing lasted from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The judge and the prosecutor could not respond when faced with a strong defense. Tong Mingzhi, the chief judge, announced that the court was adjourned.
A Person Without Focus Changed Into a Man of High Integrity
Since starting to practice Falun Gong in 1995, Mr. Liu Chengjun completely changed from a person without focus into a man of high integrity. Before that, Mr. Liu smoked, drank and often got into fights. After he became a practitioner, he followed the principles of Truthfulness- Compassion-Forbearance in his daily life and business dealings. People who know him respect his professional conduct, calling him “absolutely a man of integrity.”
Mr. Liu’s honest conduct did not prevent the police from persecuting him. Around 8:00 p.m. on September 28, 2012, when Mr. Liu and another practitioner, Sun Xifeng, were having a conversation, a dozen police officers suddenly jumped out of four cars and arrested Mr. Liu. These officers came from the domestic security branches of Dandong City and Fengcheng City. Some were from the police branches of Fengshan and Fenghuang.
Falsely Charged for Remaining Steadfast in His Belief
Ding Wenbo, the secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee in Fengcheng City, as well as deputy secretaries Li Hongquan and Hua Jiqiang, are the main perpetrators responsible for persecuting Mr. Liu. Ding Wenbo even contacted gangsters and told them to threaten and scare Mr. Liu so that he would give up Falun Gong. When that attempt failed, Ding Wenbo ordered police from Fengcheng City, the prosecutor and court to bring charges against Mr. Liu on December 24, 2012. When Mr. Liu’s family asked to visit him in detention, their request was denied.
On January 13, 2013, Mr. Liu ’s family members went to the procuratorate to ask about his case. Prosecutor Gu Shipeng told them that Mr. Liu was charged in Fengcheng Court. On February 7, Mr. Liu’s daughter went to the detention center to visit her father, but her request was denied. She could only see her father through a TV camera for a few minutes.
Mr. Liu Chengjun is still in detention.
