(Minghui.org) Zhang Yuexian, the head of the Li County 610 Office, ordered local police from the Domestic Security Department to arrest Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhao Limei on March 5, 2013. Ms. Zhao is from Li County, Hebei Province. Within only six days after the arrest, her life was endangered as a result of the abuse she endured in detention. On March 10, Ms. Zhao's family was told to take her home. When they saw her, they were upset at her condition, and said to the police, "How could she be tortured so badly in just a few days!"
The persecution and torture of Ms. Zhao was exposed on the Minghui website, and as a result, Zhang went to threaten Ms. Zhao's family in an effort to stop them from further exposing the persecution. He threatened to have Ms. Zhao fired from her job, on top of more physical abuse.
The several older people in Ms. Zhao's family were especially affected by the ordeal of her arrest and abuse. After being threatened, her 79-year-old mother was traumatized, and could not eat or sleep well.
After she began the practice of Falun Gong, Ms. Zhao's health improved, as did her character. In the past, she has been subjected to harassment and other forms of persecution by the Ji County 610 Office, Police Bureau, Educational Committee, and the vocational school where Ms. Zhao was employed (the Radio & Television University under the Li County Education Department). Once, they stationed themselves at Ms. Zhao's home for over ten days, severely disturbing her family life. They detained her, monitored her, and sent her to forced labor camps, subjecting her to cruel torture. Ms. Zhao has suffered a great deal over the past 14 years of persecution.
Her mother, son, daughter and daughter-in-law have also been harassed and threatened by these same officials. Her mother, in addition to not being able to sleep or eat, has also fallen down many times. Her pregnant daughter-in-law went into premature labor as a result of the emotional trauma of the persecution.
This harassment was thought out and planned. Back in early 2008, Zhang accused Ms. Zhao of hanging posters calling attention to his misdeeds throughout the area. He told her he had no reservations about how to persecute her now. After that, the police would break into her home and ransack it whenever they wanted to.
Before the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Zhang arrested Ms. Zhao and confiscated her I.D. She was held for three months. Zhang also ordered people from the Educational Committee and management from the vocational school to monitor her and report on her twice a day. On January 5, 2009, when Ms. Zhao asked for a one-day leave from the management in her company, the “monitors” reported it to people from the 610 Office. After that, Ms. Zhao found the front door of her home forced open.
In the following years, Zhang often ordered people to go to Ms. Zhao's home. They illegally entered and searched her home. They also tampered with her lock by stuffing toothpicks into the keyhole of her front door.
On November 5, 2012, after attending a family wedding, she returned home with her son, very late at night. She could not open the door because of the toothpicks jammed into the keyhole. The neighbors were all in bed, so Ms. Zhao and her son had to return to the wedding. It had been raining, so they were soaked through and shivering from the cold. This is only one of the many inconveniences they experienced, causing anxiety for her and her son.
In March 2013, during the two Party Congresses held by the Communist Party, Zhang ordered people to follow Ms. Zhao, ambush her at home and arrest her. At the detention center, Ms. Zhao was unable to keep any food down. She would cramp up and vomit whenever she tried to eat. Tian Lihui, Fan Zhaoping, Zhang Hongtao, and Li Qing from the 610 Office kept watching her. On the afternoon of March 10, Ms. Zhao was weak from lack of food. She had trouble even opening her eyes. The authorities at the detention center did not want to take responsibility for her condition, so they notified her family to come take her home.
