(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Cui Hai became seriously ill as a result of abuse in detention. She has been held in a hospital for months but not given any effective medical treatment. Her family has not been allowed to visit her and is extremely worried about her.
Ms. Cui, 64, was arrested during the 2013 Chinese New Year in Wuhan City. After being detained for months, she developed high blood pressure up to 230 and was sent to Ankang Hospital in Wuhan. This hospital treats drug offenders and is not equipped to deal with patients with heart problems. However, the hospital officials collaborated with the police and admitted Ms. Cui, who has not been given any effective treatment for her condition and is basically being incarcerated in the hospital.
Ms. Cui has been in the hospital for over three months now. Her son and other relatives went to the hospital several times but were not allowed to visit her. When they submitted a request to the Wuhan Police Department to release her, instead of releasing the sick woman, the police department officials threatened her relatives.
The family hired a lawyer for her. The lawyer also encountered resistance and was threatened by the police. Finally the lawyer was able to meet his client in Ankang Hospital.
Ms. Cui told the lawyer about the ordeals she endured while being arrested and tortured.
Followed and Arrested
On September 6, 2012, someone deliberately cut off the electricity to Ms. Cui's home in Qianshuiwan, Xianggang Road, Hankou region, Wuhan City. There was a constant knocking on her front door. Ms. Cui realized that someone was monitoring her, and she was forced to leave her home.
She went to Guangzhou City to avoid arrest, but Wuhan City Domestic Security Division agents led by deputy head Cai Heng followed her. On her way from Guangzhou City to Kunming City, Ms. Cui was arrested on October 17, 2012, and taken back to Wuhan City.
She was first detained in Erdaoban Brainwashing Center in the Jianghan District, then transferred a week later to the notorious Hubei Province Brainwashing Center (officially calle the Hubei Province "Law and Education Center") for more than two months.
Tortured in Hubei Province Brainwashing Center
While in the Hubei Province Brainwashing Center, Ms. Cui developed high blood pressure of up to 130/220. The staff laced her food and water with drugs, but Ms. Cui saw through their tricks several times and refused to eat or drink. She started a hunger strike to protest the mistreatment. Collaborators tried to brainwash and tortured her.
Ms. Cui's feet and hands were tied to a chair, and she was given an infusion against her will. Two days later, a nurse came to force-feed her with tubing as thick as a bicycle tire. Deng Qun, who assisted in the force-feeding, said, “Our tubing is bigger than what is used in the hospital. Many practitioners give in after they experienced this once.” Jiang Lili stomped on Ms. Cui’s feet, causing her feet to swell so much that she was barely able to walk.
In November, Hu Gaowei pushed Ms. Cui near a desk, held her head on the desk, and put a smoking cigarette near her nose. After Ms. Cui slipped to the ground, she threw cold water on her.
The next day, Deng Qun and Zhou dragged Ms. Cui across the floor from one side of the room to the other side several times. Deng Qun also stomped on Ms. Cui's hands, causing them to swell. Even now Ms. Cui is still unable to close her small finger and index finger. The brutal torture made her blood pressure rise and she had difficulty breathing.
Jiang Lili ordered Hu Gaowei to pour cold water on the floor where Ms. Cui was sitting, making her pants wet. It was cold outside, and they opened the window to let in the cold air so that she would freeze.
When Ms. Cui refused to undergo brainwashing sessions on the second floor, the guards carried her upstairs and threatened to drag her up along the stairs, making sure to hit her head on every step.
Severely Injured in Wuhan City No. 1 Detention Center
Ms. Cui Hai was transferred to the Wuhan City No. 1 Detention Center on December 31, 2012, by Wuhan City 610 Office agents. She was abused and tortured during the interrogations and was seriously injured. Her blood pressure shot up to 230, and she lost consciousness twice.
To avoid being held responsible, the 610 Office agents sent Ms. Cui to the Wuhan City Police Department's Ankang Hospital, which is equipped to treat drug offenders and is not a regular hospital. Instead of being treated there, Ms. Cui was incarcerated and not given any effective medical treatment.
When her family questioned the guards in the No. 1 Detention Center, the guards tried to deny any responsibility and blamed the inmates for abusing Ms. Cui. When the family asked, “Without your oversight, how could the inmates dare to beat other inmates?” the guards remained silent.
Ms. Cui’s son was very sad when he heard that his mother had been subjected to such inhuman mistreatment. He did everything he could to gain her release and tried to visit her many times but was not allowed to.
Ms. Cui’s Family Seeks Justice
Ms. Cui’s daughter in Australia called Cai Heng, deputy of the Wuhan City Domestic Security Division, and denounced him for torturing her mother. Knowing he was guilty of criminal conduct and attempting to cover it up, Cai Heng became even more arrogant.
When the lawyer asked about Ms. Cui's case, Cai Heng replied, “You always ask me about her case. I… I am no longer in charge of it – it has been turned over to someone else.”
Severe Illness Gone after Practicing Falun Gong
Ms. Cui Hai, originally from Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province, worked at the Wuhan Chemicals Import and Export Company. She was once posted to Guangzhou as a general manager because of her abilities. She contributed greatly to the company. She was later diagnosed with gallstones, as well as severe gastric and gynecological problems. She tried many treatments but her health did not improve. She began practicing Falun Gong in 1996. Soon after, all of her illnesses disappeared. She went to work in good health and more energy and enthusiasm. She was admired by both her company leaders and colleagues.
Repeatedly Persecuted
Over the past 14 years, Ms. Cui has been repeatedly arrested, detained, and sentenced because she refused to renounce Falun Gong. After being imprisoned for three years, she was fired from her job and thus lost her salary and benefits. Throughout the entire persecution she has constantly been harassed.
