(Minghui.org) A Falun Gong practitioner, who lived with his elderly mother, was illegally arrested by the police. They did not inform his mother and concealed his whereabouts. His mother hired a lawyer who found out where he was being held. When the lawyer tried to meet with his client, he was blocked by the authorities.
Mr. Li Wei from Shenzhen lived with his mother in Huizhou City. He was arrested by the local police on September 30, 2013, when he was handing out Shen Yun Performing Arts DVDs.
For the past three months, the Huizhou Police Department concealed where they were holding Mr. Li, causing extreme anxiety to his elderly mother.
Family Hires Lawyer but Officials Block Him from Seeing His Client
Mr. Li's family hired a lawyer, who later found out that Mr. Li was being detained in the Shenzhen Brainwashing Center. However, personnel from the Luohu District Politics and Law Committee in Shenzhen and the brainwashing center blocked his lawyer from seeing him.
Practitioner Sentenced and Unable to Reunite with His Family in the U.S.
Mr. Li Wei, 50, was sentenced by the 610 Office to a forced labor camp twice, for a total of five years. The first time, he was incarcerated in the Sanshui Forced Labor Camp, the second time in the Second Forced Labor Camp in Shenzhen. Mr. Li's wife and two children live in the United States; however, due to the persecution, he is unable to reunite with them. Therefore, Mr. Li came to Weiguoyuan, Huizhou City, to live with his 70-year-old mother.
Arrested and Abused Simply for Telling People the Facts
Mr. Li was handing out Shen Yun Performing Arts DVDs near the Renrenlea Supermarket on September 30, 2013, in order to promote traditional Chinese culture to the local people. When he was speaking to people about Falun Gong to an elderly woman, two police officers arrived and called in two additional officers. Four officers chased and caught him, pushed him to the ground and tied him up with a belt. They threw him into a police car and sped away. He was taken to the Henanan Police Station in Huizhou, and later transferred to the Huicheng District Branch of the Huizhou Police Department.
When Mr. Li was arrested his mother was left home alone and didn't know where her son was. An officer from the Domestic Security Division lied to her and said that her son had been released on bail the same day of his arrest. Since Mr. Li was arrested, his mother was so traumatized that she was afraid to leave her home.
The local 610 Office has strictly monitored Falun Gong practitioners in Weiguoyuan. They have hired people to continually watch practitioners, even in grocery stores. The 610 Office also ordered people to report practitioners when they saw that they were distributing informational materials. In the building where Mr. Li and his mother lived, someone on the first and seventh floor had constantly monitored them.
Mr. Li's friends and relatives went to the Huizhou Police Department in an attempt to find out his whereabouts, but they were unsuccessful. Officials from the public security office had detained Mr. Li for three months without informing his family. This is a typical example of how law enforcement officers in the Chinese communist regime violate the law.
Mr. Li's mother hired a lawyer who found out from the Huizhou Detention Center and the Domestic Security Division that he had been taken to Shenzhen, where he is currently detained in the Xili Brainwashing Center.
Mr. Li's lawyer went to the Luohu District Politics and Law Committee in Shenzhen on December 30, 2013, where he was told that he had to write and submit a written document to the 610 Office in order to get approval to see his client.
His lawyer went to the Xili Brainwashing Center to bring Mr. Li some clothes from his family on the afternoon of December 30, 2013. Someone there told the lawyer that the instructor responsible for “reforming” Mr. Li had gone to a meeting, thus he couldn't see his client. Most likely, officials from the brainwashing center received a notice from the Politics and Law Committee ordering them to stop Mr. Li's lawyer from seeing him.
