(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Fu Jian escaped from a brainwashing center on May 15, 2013, after being held for 30 days. He was weak and emaciated due to the torture, with difficulty walking due to the pain in his legs.
Mr. Fu, 36, from Shouguang City, Shandong Province, used to work at the Juneng Power Company in Weifang City. He was designated a “model worker” many times. However, he was fired from his job for his spiritual belief.
Mr. Fu was illegally arrested on April 15, 2013. The police ransacked his home and confiscated his car, cell phone, microwave, notebook computer and 1,000 yuan in cash. They took him to the Shouguang Brainwashing Center the same day.
Mr. Fu was severely tortured in the brainwashing center, as officials attempted to make him renounce his belief. After managing to escape, he was forced to become homeless to avoid another arrest, leaving his four-year-old son and parents at home.

Officers from the Shouguang Domestic Security Division, along with four agents from the brainwashing center, tried to force Mr. Fu to give up his faith, but to no avail. They also demanded that he reveal his Falun Gong contacts, but Mr. Fu refused.
A “specialist” from Weifang City was then called in to “transform” him.
Mr. Fu was cuffed to an iron chair, deprived of sleep, and given only a small piece of bread and half a cup of water daily. He went on a hunger strike for five days to protest the persecution.

Deputy captain Guo Hongtang told the guard, “Don't worry about it, as long as he doesn't starve to death.” Guo also repeatedly beat Mr. Fu, hung him up by handcuffs, and cuffed his hands behind his back.
Despite the abuse, Mr. Fu remained steadfast in his belief.
Seeing that all of their attempts failed, officials planned to transfer Mr. Fu to a detention center on May 16, so that he could be put on trial and given a heavy sentence. Mr. Fu managed to escape from the brainwashing center on May 15.
