(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Yin Yucai and Mr. Liu Qiusheng have been detained for more than 50 days in the Duchang County Detention Center and are facing illegal sentences. Their families are not allowed to visit them.
On the morning of January 13, 2014, 83-year-old Mr. Yin and 48-year-old Mr. Liu went to Xubu Township to distribute Falun Gong truth-clarification materials. Local police arrested and interrogated them for over five hours. The police also confiscated 300 yuan in cash, a number of the pamphlets, 200 self-adhesive posters, and some DVDs from them.
Mr. Yin and Mr. Liu were taken to the County Chinese Medicine Hospital for physical exams that afternoon. Mr. Liu was diagnosed with heart disease and hypertension. The police disregarded his condition and took both practitioners to the County Police Department for further interrogation.
The police questioned them until 8 p.m. When they did not get what they wanted, they sent Mr. Liu and Mr. Yin to the Duchang County Detention Center.
Threatened with Prison Sentences
In the afternoon of February 17, during interrogation, county procuratorate staff informed Mr. Liu and Mr. Yin that their cases had been submitted to the Procuratorate. Their alleged “crime” was “using a cult to sabotage law enforcement.”
They also said that the case had been identified as a key one by the Domestic Security division, a common threat implying severe prison terms.
On February 19, Zhan Yuanpeng and another police officer presented both practitioners with formal arrest warrants, which Mr. Yin and Mr. Liu refused to sign. Zhan then said that the case had generated attention from the Political and Legal Affairs Committee at the provincial level.
Domestic Security Division political head Zhan Yuanpeng, Xubu Police Station political head Huang Jimou, and other officers ransacked the practitioners’ homes in January, several days after the arrest. They took a number of Falun Gong books, informational DVDs, a portrait of Master Li Hongzhi, and cash.
