(Minghui.org) Ms. Min Xiujuan, a 68-year-old villager, was arrested on March 17, 2014. She had been released from prison less than four years earlier in November 2010, after being incarcerated and physically abused since May 2005. In both cases, she had been arrested without having committed a crime – Ms. Min merely practiced the Falun Gong exercises and told other townsfolk about the benefits that she had experienced from doing so.
Ms. Min's Latest Arrest
Min Xiujuan was illegally arrested around 7:00 p.m. on March 17, 2014 after someone reported to the police that she had been talking to people about Falun Gong and the persecution. The police took her to the local police station in Anting Township, and 24 hours later transferred her to the Jiading District Detention Center in Shanghai, where she is currently detained.
May 2005 Arrest
One day in late May 2005, Ms. Min's family of five (including her husband, their two daughters and son-in-law) were illegally arrested for practicing Falun Gong and were taken to the Jiading District Detention Center.
Their arrest drew alarm from people in Ms. Min's hometown of Anting Town, Jiading District. Those familiar with the family knew that Ms. Min and her family were upstanding members of the community. They felt it was terribly unjust and worried that a new round of the Cultural Revolution had befallen them.
Ms. Min was illegally detained at Sijing Women's Prison in Shanghai for five and a half years and suffered various forms of torture. The prison guards locked her in confinement and instigated inmates to torture her. They also monitored her every move. The guards often humiliated her by forbidding her to use the restroom, and inciting inmates to abuse and berate her when she had no choice but to relieve herself in her pants. Within a couple of months, Ms. Min's health had declined noticeably, and her originally glowing complexion turned ashen.
Despite the torment, Ms. Min kept her faith in Falun Gong's principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and endured until her release in November 2010.
