(Minghui.org) For distributing informational flyers, Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Wang Defa and Ms. Han Xinyan were tried in the Ganjingzi District Court in Dalian City on February 26, 2014.
The trial began around 10:20 a.m., and only 10 of the practitioners' family members were allowed in. The rest of their family and friends had to wait outside the courthouse, along with many police officers.
Lu Mingli was the judge, and Liu Zhonglin was the prosecutor.
In his opening statement, prosecutor Liu said that it was illegal for Mr. Wang to distribute Falun Gong flyers because the practice had been labeled a cult.
Mr. Wang responded, “I used to have many bad habits and health issues. However, after I began practicing Falun Gong, I became healthier, more considerate, kinder, etc. I merely follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Can you specify which law I have violated?”
Mr. Wang’s attorney, Mr. Li Changming, said, “According to China's current law and the definition of a cult, Falun Dafa does not violate any law, nor is it a cult.”
The prosecutor became angry and told Mr. Li to quit the case and leave since he wasn't aware that the Ministry of Public Security had issued an order that Falun Gong was a cult.
Attorney Li said, “The order (from the Ministry of Public Security) is not equal to the law. As a prosecutor, you should respect others in the court. I have my responsibility and my right as a certified lawyer of China. I can’t quit the case and leave just because you say so.” The prosecutor seemed embarrassed and said nothing more.
After the judge announced an adjournment, Mr. Wang and Ms. Han were taken to a police car outside of the courthouse at about 1:30 p.m.
Mr. Wang and Ms. Han were illegally arrested by local police for distributing flyers about Falun Gong and the persecution on July 6, 2012.
