(Minghui.org) Police in Leshan City arrested Falun Gong practitioner Huang Qiong on March 9, 2017 and confiscated her cash, ID card, and other possessions seized from her home. She has since been under house arrest.
In August, she filed a lawsuit against the local authorities and demanded the return of her belongings as well as a guarantee for her basic human rights to spiritual belief.
After Ms. Huang turned in her criminal complaints, the police stopped threatening her and her daughter. In September a domestic security officer had Ms. Huang go and collect her money and ID, and lifted her house arrest. The domestic security captain was no longer there, and the staff who received her were very polite. An officer who once threatened her waved goodbye as she left.
Nevertheless, the police still had not returned the property confiscated from her home. In September Ms. Huang went to the authorities and demanded its return and her right to practice Falun Gong.
She told the officials that the current Chinese Communist Party leader would not continue or take responsibility for the persecution of Falun Gong. She warned the officials to stop arresting and harassing practitioners for their faith.
Ms. Huang cited several People’s Daily articles published in July 2016, quoting CCP leader Xi Jinping, who asked officials not to make spiritual differences a political issue, to respect people’s free choices and to ensure that religious and spiritual freedom is protected. Xi also discouraged attempts to wipe out religious belief using administrative power and political struggles.
In August 2016, a document circulating within central CCP organizations stated, “In the past 17 years of the persecution of Falun Gong, practitioners and their families have been treated unfairly at work, in the military, and in schools. From now on, local governments should gradually correct the mistakes.”
