(Minghui.org) Mr. Jiang Yabin from Liumao Township in Jixi City was sentenced to a three-year prison term on September 30, 2017.
Mr. Jiang was arrested with Ms. Zhang Chunmei on March 9, 2017, after being reported to the police for talking to people about Falun Gong.
When several local Falun Gong practitioners called the police, urging them to release Mr. Jiang and Ms. Zhang, the police threatened to have the two detained practitioners punished severely.
Mr. Jiang's lawyer met with him on June 20, and Mr. Jiang reiterated his determination to fight for his constitutional right to freedom of belief.
The lawyer entered a “not guilty” plea for him when he was tried in the Hengshan District Court on September 12. The presiding judge ruled on September 30 to sentence Mr. Jiang to three years in prison.
He is now appealing the sentence.
This is not the first time that Mr. Jiang has been targeted for his faith. He has already spent one year in a forced labor camp, three years in prison, and was incarcerated in a brainwashing center three times. He also had to live away from home for extended periods of time to avoid being arrested.
