(Minghui.org) A woman in Jilin City was arrested on October 18, 2017, the day when the 19th Party Congress opened in Beijing. Her daughter was kept in a cage at the local police station for two hours when she went to inquire about the case.
Ms. Chen, 66, was targeted because the local police feared she’d go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime, while the Congress was in session.
Chief Huang Zhen of Nanjingjie Police Station and six of his officers, including Yin Baoan, were responsible for Ms. Chen’s arrest. They didn’t show an arrest warrant and told her husband that they’d keep her detained until the Congress was over. Her husband was so traumatized that his hair turned gray overnight.
Ms. Chen’s daughter went to visit her at Jilin City Detention Center on October 21 and noticed that her mother appeared worn out. The younger woman then went to Nanjingjie Police Station to inquire about her mother’s case and was told that her family should prepare to see Ms. Chen sentenced to prison.
Ms. Chen’s daughter couldn’t understand how her mother could have broken any law by trying to be a good person following Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. She returned to the police station the next day, but officer Yin refused to show her any arrest or search warrant associated with her mother's case.
Chief Huang came out of his office and told Ms. Chen’s daughter, “I arrested your mother because she violated the law.” The daughter again requested to see the arrest warrant, and Huang replied, “I don’t have a search or arrest warrant, but I arrested your mother!” He went on to say, “Yes, I broke the law! I dare you to sue me!”
Ms. Chen’s daughter asked Huang to repeat what he said. He did, and she took out her phone to record everything. Huang threatened to arrest her.
Office Cheng Yabin began to videotape Ms. Chen’s daughter, while Huang and a few other officers snatched away her phone. During the struggle, her right arm was injured.
The police pushed her into a cage and threatened to detain her together with her mother. They also claimed that they had just filled one more quota.
Ms. Chen’s daughter wasn’t let out of the cage until two hours later. The police returned her phone and forced her to delete the audio recordings of Huang’s words before setting her free.
Ms. Chen did the Falun Gong exercises once at the detention center, but the guards threatened to deny her cellmates use of the restroom if she didn't stop.
