(Minghui.org) An elderly man in his seventies, who had been released after the local Procuratorate declined to indict him for his faith, was brought back to court and convicted months later.
Mr. Zhou Xikun, an employee of Wuhan University, was seized from his home on December 20, 2016, for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
His wife and son didn't find out that he had been sent to Hongshan Detention Center until days later. Officer He Aimin, who was assigned to the case, refused to meet with them or offer any update on the case.
Mr. Zhou’s case was forwarded to the Hongshan District Procuratorate on March 25, 2017, but the Procuratorate ruled on April 5 to not indict him, and returned the case to the police.
Mr. Zhou was released on April 27.
The local police, however, resubmitted the case and managed to get Mr. Zhou indicted the second time around. The Hongshan District Court tried him on September 13 and convicted him on October 31.
Mr. Zhou was sentenced to three years in prison and fined 5,000 yuan. He immediately filed an appeal.
