(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners in Calgary held a press conference in front of the Chinese consulate on December 3, 2017, calling for help to rescue illegally detained Canadian citizen Sun Qian, as well as the relatives of twelve Canadians. Their message was aimed at Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during his trip to China.
Ms. Sun Qian, a Canadian citizen, has been detained in Beijing for nine months since February for her belief in Falun Gong.
Daughter of Ms. Huang Jinling, resident of Calgary, Ms. Chen Yinghua, was sentenced to four years in 2015 for her belief in Falun Gong and remains imprisoned in Hebei Provincial Women's Prison.
The cousin of Ms. Jiang Baolian, another resident of Calgary, Ms. Zuo Li, was sentenced to prison in 2015 for her belief in Falun Gong and remains imprisoned in Shaanxi Provincial Women's Prison.
At the press conference, Falun Gong practitioner Jeff Yang said that Falun Gong has been under the Chinese Communist regime's suppression and persecution over the past 18 years despite censure from the international community. A large body of evidence indicates that a large number of Falun Gong practitioners in China have been killed by the Communist regime for their organs for profit.
Mr. Yang said he hopes that relations and trade between Canada and China will be based on human rights and respect for law. He also hopes that the prime minister will speak on behalf of Canada, fight for the freedom of Canadian citizens and relatives who are illegally detained by the Communist regime and provide moral support to the Chinese people.
As Falun Gong practitioners and supporters stood out in the cold wind, many pedestrians and passing by drivers expressed their support.
