(Minghui.org) A resident of Dalian City was sentenced to prison in November 2016, and his family didn’t find out about his conviction until June 2017.
Mr. Qu Lianxi, 58, was arrested on June 28, 2016 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. This is not the first time that he has been targeted for his faith. He was sentenced to a 10-year prison term in 2001 and given 2 years of forced labor in 2012. His latest arrest took place less than three years after he was released from a local labor camp.
The local court sentenced Mr. Qu to 4 years in prison in November 2016 without his family’s knowledge. His family was shocked to learn that he was no longer at the local detention center when they went there in mid-June 2017 to deliver necessities for him.
The detention center guards claimed that they had no knowledge of Mr. Qu’s whereabouts. It took his family days to find out that he had been transferred to Liaonan Prison.
Mr. Qu’s family saw him on June 21 at the prison. He told them that he was admitted to prison 15 days ago and that he is appealing the guilty verdict.
