(Minghui.org) A Falun Gong practitioner in Tongwei County is facing prosecution after police submitted her case to the local procuratorate in May 2017.
Ms. Niu Bianbian, 52, was home on March 8, 2017 when police broke in and arrested her. Her mother-in-law was knocked to ground while trying to stop her from being taken away.
Her lawyer visited her on March 21 and noticed she had cuts and bruises on her face. Her family hired a second lawyer soon afterwards. The new lawyer visited her on April 26 and learned that she was interrogated for more than 30 hours continuously, shortly after her arrest, and that one officer used a heavy hardcover book to hit her face repeatedly.
Ms. Niu’s family and two lawyers requested her release but were rejected by Bao Hanzhou, head of Tongwei County Domestic Security Office who led the arrest.
The lawyers then mailed a written legal opinion to Bao, but they have not received a response. They learned recently that her case has been forwarded to the procuratorate on May 26.
Ms. Niu remains at Dingxi City Detention Center.
