(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Guiqing, 69, was tried by the Zhen’an District Court in Dandong City on June 28, 2017.
Ms. Li, who is from Dandong City, Liaoning Province, was arrested by officers from the Tongxing Police Station and Zhen’an District Domestic Security Division on March 9, 2017, after being reported to the authorities. Falun Gong is a spiritual belief that is persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party.
Ms. Li’s lawyer presented many convincing arguments during the trial.
The lawyer raised the point that no law in China states that practicing Falun Gong is illegal, and that providing people with materials containing information about Falun Gong is also not illegal, as it represents freedom of belief and religion, which are protected by the Constitution.
The procurator claimed that the materials were deemed illegal by the 610 Office and were therefore used as evidence, but the defense lawyer stated that no current law stipulates that Falun Gong books and materials are against the law, and that for the prosecutor to follow the directives from the 610 Office violated the principle of judicial independence.
The procurator never specified which laws were allegedly violated.
