(Minghui.org) A Tianjin engineer was tried for his continued efforts to expose the Chinese communist regime’s persecution of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Because no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong, his lawyers demanded his acquittal.
Mr. Zhu Gang was seized at home on December 7, 2016, after being reported for distributing Falun Gong materials earlier in the day.
He appeared in court on September 1, 2017. His two lawyers pleaded not guilty on his behalf, and he also testified in his own defense. He is still being held in Nankai Detention Center.
This is not the first time that Mr. Zhu has been targeted for his faith. He lost his job as an engineer with the Tianjin Pipe Corporation. He also served time in Shuangkou Forced Labor Camp, where he was subjected to frequent torture sessions. Guard Tong once ordered inmates to slap him on the face repeatedly. His eyes and face became so swollen that he was unrecognizable. He was also shocked with two electric batons simultaneously.
Another time the guards stuck a total of six burning cigarettes into his nostrils. They sent him to a mental hospital when nothing worked to shake his faith in Falun Gong. They claimed that Falun Gong had turned him into a psychotic.
