(Minghui.org) A recent Minghui article reported the arrest and recent sentencing of two practitioners in Hebei Province, China, for installing satellite dishes to access uncensored information about Falun Gong. Another submission to Minghui confirmed that this is being done throughout the country.
Mr. Gu Banglian, 35, is a practitioner in Sihong County, Jiangsu Province. Because he had installed satellite receivers that could receive NTD programs, Suning County police arrested him on March 1, 2017.
NTD is a television station based in New York that offers news updates and analyses, including news about the persecution of Falun Gong in China.
The police held Mr. Gu in a hotel for two weeks. They deprived him of sleep and access to the toilet. Officers also beat him and tortured him on a tiger bench. This led to Mr. Gu experiencing headaches, hearing loss, bleeding in the ear, and lower back pain.
After being transferred to Suining Detention Center, Mr. Gu was taken to a hospital because of his medical issues.
The Suining Court and Procuratorate sentenced him to four years in prison on October 30, 2017. He was later admitted to Hongzehu Prison in Jiangsu Province.
Mr. Gu has three under-aged children. His wife is on her own with no source of income.
