(Minghui.org) When Mr. Wang Zhongming's lawyer contacted the Chongqing Intermediate Court regarding his appeal of the 3.5-year sentence, he was surprised to be told that the Intermediate Court had upheld it without notifying him. It wasn't clear whether a hearing was held or when and where it was held.
When Mr. Wang's family called the Yubei District Detention Center, they were told that Mr. Wang had been taken to Yongchuan Prison in Chongqing to serve time.
Mr. Wang, a 53-year-old senior engineer from Chongqing, was arrested by plainclothes officers on September 28, 2017 for practicing Falun Gong, a mind-body practice persecuted by the communist regime since 1999. The police ransacked his home without any explanation for doing so. The search warrant they displayed didn't have the signature from the head of the police station.
Mr. Wang's arrest was approved on November 3, and he was later transferred from Yuzhong District Detention Center to Yubei District Detention Center.
The Yubei District Court held a hearing against him on January 26, 2018. Two lawyers entered a non-guilty defense for him. The court announced his 3.5-year verdict at the end of June. He filed the appeal in July.
Mr. Wang's mother is now 96 years old, but none of his family members dare to tell her about his sentencing, fearing that it would cause too much mental distress.
