(Minghui.org) Ms. Cheng Quanying, 69, a Falun Gong practitioner from Taigu County, Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province, was tried in the Taigu County Court on November 21, 2018. Despite her lawyer’s well-argued defense, the court sentenced her to seven years in prison for her faith. Ms. Cheng refused to accept the verdict. She declared that she would appeal to the Jinzhong City Intermediate Court.
Sentenced in 2018 at Taigu County Court
To help others understand that Falun Gong is being unjustly persecuted, Ms. Cheng had been talking to people about the spiritual practice. She was reported when she was talking to people about Falun Gong in Beiguo Village, Shuixiu Township, Taigu County, on July 19, 2018. She was arrested by officers from the Shuixiu Township Police Station. Her home was ransacked.
She was officially placed under arrest on August 1 and held in the Jinzhong City Detention Center. Gao, an officer from the police station, took orders from Li Yusheng, head of the Taigu County Domestic Security Division, and filed her case with the Taigu County Procuratorate on October 11. Two days later, Ms. Cheng's case was turned over to the Taigu County Court by the procuratorate.
Ms. Cheng was tried on November 21 and sentenced to seven years in prison.
Prior Arrest and Sentencing for Talking About Falun Gong in 2007
Ms. Cheng had previously been sentenced to six years in prison for believing in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
Ms. Cheng was arrested by the local police when she was talking to people about Falun Gong on October 20, 2007. She was later sentenced to six years in prison. After being abused in Shanxi Province Women's Prison she was in critical condition. She was granted medical parole in 2009 and was again arrested and imprisoned in August 2010. The arrest and imprisonment aggravated her illnesses, and she had extremely high blood pressure readings. Her life was in danger.
After Ms. Cheng returned home on January 15, 2013, officers from the Taigu County Police Department and the Mingxing Town Police Station used every excuse to harass her. Her family reminded the officers that Ms. Cheng was free. Yang Lijuan, a residential police officer, replied, “To deal with Falun Gong practitioners, we will not stop harassing even if they are free.”
Three officers from the Taigu County 610 Office and two officers from the Taigu County Police Department forced their way into Ms. Cheng's home at noon on November 19, 2013. They pretended to help her set up a subsistence allowance and find a job, in order to trick her and her children to sign paperwork. After they failed to gather their signatures, the head of the Taigu County 610 Office confiscated eight Falun Gong books.
Sharing the Truth About Falun Gong
Ms. Cheng used to suffer from poor health. She went to several doctors seeking treatment, but none could diagnose the cause of her illnesses. Some doctors thought that it was anthrax, and others said it was puerperal fever. She had to take medicine every day to stay alive.
Soon after she began practicing Falun Gong, her illnesses disappeared. Because she felt rejuvenated and uplifted, she told everyone she knew, "Falun Dafa is good!" She wanted others to share her happiness and also benefit from Falun Gong.
