(Minghui.org) A Tahe County resident was incarcerated in Harbin Women's Prison in Heilongjiang Province on May 15, 2018, to serve time for her faith.
Ms. Gao Shuying was arrested on April 20, 2018, for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. The local police drove her to a hospital for a checkup before taking her to the local detention center.
Ms. Gao went on a hunger strike to protest her illegal detention shortly after her arrest. Her health gradually declined. The detention center said that she would be fed intravenously only if her family gave them money first. Ms. Gao's family declined to pay.
Her family hired a lawyer on April 27, but the Tahe County Court refused to accept the lawyer's application to represent her. The lawyer had no recourse but to mail his application to the court. The EMS receipt indicated that the court received the application package on April 28.
The lawyer tried to visit Ms. Gao on April 27, but he wasn't able to see her. The detention center authorities had rushed her to the local hospital for resuscitation earlier that day.
Four agents arrived at 3:30 p.m. on May 2 and carried Ms. Gao to the court. Her family and lawyer were not notified of her trial. She was sentenced to prison, though the details remain to be investigated. Neither she nor her family was given a copy of the verdict. She kept saying that she wanted to appeal her case, but no one helped her connect with her family or lawyer.
Court and the detention center officials lied to her family, saying that they'd release her on medical parole once her prison sentence took effect. When her prison sentence was set to begin, the authorities said that the medical parole request had been turned down.
Ms. Gao was transferred to the prison on May 15, even though she had become incontinent and was unable to walk.
